I secure important data by making a copy of the directory on another hard drive. Every now and again I "Synchronize Directories" to keep the data in sync. I CAN click on the filename in the right panel and change the filename but I can't in the left panel? Why is this?
Thanks in anticipation....

You can also click on the name in the left column to rename there. But the click must be within the width of the "Name" column, and there must be a file on that side too. Also it only works in a file system, not within archives.

Re: Synchronize Directories anomaly
I have.... In fact, to prove a point, I just did again....
Click on a filename in the right panel - highlights the filename and allows you to edit it.
Do the same in the left panel - nothing.... I've continued to click in the left panel - still nothing.
Sorry, definitely doesn't allow editing the filename in the left panel
On directories on both sides, not archives....

Not confirmed. (Slowly) clicking on a filename also in the left panel allows to edit it.louwin wrote: 2022-07-12, 01:01 UTCDo the same in the left panel - nothing.... I've continued to click in the left panel - still nothing.

Re: Synchronize Directories anomaly
Are you aware that it isn't just a single click, but a single click on the current item? So when you want to rename a file on some other line, you need to first click on that line and then again to rename (not too quickly, that would be a double click).
Also did you read my remark that the file must be in a local file system? Renaming isn't supported
- in archives
- on ftp servers
- in file system plugins

Re: Synchronize Directories anomaly
Hmm, I cannot rename a file in the Synchronize Directories just by clicking - but that is because I have InplaceRenameSync=0 in my wincmd.ini.
But I can click on a file and then press F6 to rename the left file or Shift+F6 to rename the right file.
On the other hand - If i open the right-click on a file name I have the options of opening the Left Context menu (Alt+Down) or the Right Context menu (Atl+Shift+Down). In the context menu I have the standard Windows' "Rename" option (in the system language), BUT clicking Rename has no effect here - it would be nice in this case if the context menu would then be closed and the inline rename field was opened.

Re: Synchronize Directories anomaly
As I keep saying - I get it to work PERFECTLY in the right panel but NOT in the left panel
Then I noticed the column headers on the left panel of the "sync" display were a bit askew.... Like the header for the Name column was very narrow and the Size column header was VERY wide (only in the left panel, the right panel column headers were basically perfect!
Even though the actual display was correct (maybe controlled by the placing of the right panel column headers???) - when i was clicking on the left panel filename the column above the filename actually said "Size" so, maybe, that's why it wasn't actually allowing the filename to be edited!?
I re-arranged the columns headers and NOW the left panel works as well as the right panel.... Would you believe it!? It was all about the column headers!!!!
Thank you for your help.... Sorry for leading you on a wild goose chase....
