Useful Feature Request:

Post by *andrew_h »

Feature

#1) it'd be nice to have thumbnail view support for all the pictures we may have

#2) it'd be nice to go to Configuration and enable an option where right-clicking a file/folder will pull up the windows explorer context rather than making the file/folder turn red and wasting 1 second by holding right-click everytime you want some feature out of the installed context options (such as XP's Rotate Clockwise/Counter Clockwise, and what other applications add to it). Spending 1 second for every file we do this means a lot of time wasted in the long run

#3 it'd also be nice to be able to add a 3rd panel for navigation, kind of like Nero does.

#4 F2 by default doesn't do anything so why not automatically make it do what Windows Explorer always does which is to RENAME instead of making us do the work of remapping the key each time we install the program. You can then remove two of its related questions from your FAQ section. SHIFT/F6 can be used for something else non-standard...F2 is very common and has always been used for renaming. I'm sure a lot of people are used to that which is why it's in the FAQ too.

Option #1 is most important I think and hopefully it will be added in the next version.

And while I'm at it, I didn't see this problem asked about so here I go...I have Winrar installed. I recently downloaded a few rar files and when double clicking on them it only showed some files (no they weren't hidden or anything) yet when I double clicked from Windows Explorer it showed all the files that were really there...I tried changing the use of rar.exe to winrar.exe but now when I doubleclick on the file it shows nothing at all. Any ideas?

welcome on board,
it'd be nice to have thumbnail view support for all the pictures we may have
Take a look at this thread: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=4153. It includes a statement from a the author about that:

There is such an option. In the configuration dialog set the mouse selection mode to "Left mouse button". If you don't like to set this settings to windows standard there is another way to display the context menu immediately. Use a keyboard hotkey. Standard is Shift +F10 or simply the context menu key on your Windows 95 keyboard.

This has been discussed many times. The current result is that you'll probably never see 3 windows at once. Since TC 6.0 a tab system was installed for simplifying navigation..

There is even a poll started by the author about that:

Vote for F2 as default if you want.

You should disable "use internal Un-RAR if possible" or update to the latest Unrar.dll which should be placed in the Total Commander main directory.

@Lefteous:

Thanks for the tips. I didn't see that option with the right/left mouse button. I'm glad it's already there.

I think I'm using the latest version of TC (6.03) so I didn't think I'd need to update anything such as unrar.dll but it's worth a shot. I'll see if I can find this file. I'm assuming it's somewhere on this site.

I'm glad to hear thumbnails are in the works and will be included by the end of the year. Since there's not much left to the end of 2004 I won't bother asking what month heh. I will do the vote too.

Thanks for all your help and I feel welcomed already with such quick and courteous help. Thanks for helping the blind man see again ;-)

Hello,
I'll see if I can find this file. I'm assuming it's somewhere on this site.
In case you want to update the library you'll always find the latest Unrar.dll on the official RAR homepage: http://www.rarlab.com/rar_add.htm
Direct download: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/UnRARDLL.exe

Please see the last part of my first post again. I forgot to wrote one important word...
