Hi,
I've been using TC in portable mode from a 2.5-inch external HD for years (exact type of external HD: https://www.westerndigital.com/nl-nl/products/portable-drives/wd-elements-portable-usb-3-0-hdd#WDBU6Y0020BBK-WESN ).
Whenever I'm working on one of my laptops, I have the external HD connected to it. Sometimes this is a bit unconvenient, so I'm thinking of swapping from the external HD to a USB flash drive (exact type of flash drive: https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/usb-flash-drives/usb-3-1-flash-drive-fit-plus-256gb-muf-256ab-am/ ).
Before changing from external HD to flash drive, I wanted to ask:
- will this have an impact on the speed of TC: for example when searching for files, when moving/copying large amounts of files, when synchronising large folders & subfolders, when renaming files, ...?
- will it make TC less stable/robust when running?
- will it increase the chance TC-files (in its program folder, .ini-files, plugins, ...) getting corrupted?
If there are other risks/disadvantages of moving TC to a flash drive, please let me know.
If there are other/hybrid solutions to dump the external HD while avoiding any disadvantages of a flash drive, please let me know - for example:
- put TC itself on the internal HD, but keep all other TC-related files on the flash drive (.ini-files, plugins, ...)
- ...
Thanks in advance!

TC in portable mode from an external HD vs flash drive
I'm currently using Total Commander Version 10.00 64bit
Re: TC in portable mode from an external HD vs flash drive
That depends on the quality and healthiness of the usb port of your device and also of the used flash drive.
And, a flash drive is a removable device, which you should eject via ""the [Safely Remove Hardware] icon at the right end of the task bar."" before you disconnect it.
Also, a flash drive is by default not save for storing important data, me think. (some corrupt devices in the past for me)
Other than that, there should be no problem with TC me guess.

Well, maybe - https://www.flashbay.com/blog/usb-life-expectancywill it increase the chance TC-files (in its program folder, .ini-files, plugins, ...) getting corrupted?
