Can't unzip, getting error message

Post by *Dazzer »

Hi folks,

All of a sudden, TC is being weird in terms of unzipping stuff, i'm getting the error message shown in the linked image below.

As far as i know, i changed nothing in the settings and didn't delete any exe or plugins related to zipping.

I tried installing an external zip packer, but also no dice.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

I guess i could un/re-install, but i have TC quite heavily modified and want to avoid the hassle of having to re-configure it again after install.

Also below is a screenshot of my settings.

Error message: Image: https://ibb.co/mqN1g7W

Thanks!

Hi Dazzer,
What archive are you trying to unpack? Seems like it's not a .zip file.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

The way you configured 7zip is totaly wrong
TC supports unpacking of zip, 7zip and rar archives without any configuration.
If the internal 7zip support of TC (reading / extracting archives) is not enough
you have to add for example the Total7Zip packer plugin.

It should not matter, as long as the "Use internal ZIP packer", and "Always use internal unzipping (if possible)" are checked as Dazzer obviously has.

If one makes such strange settings he should try using a fresh ini file.
Also he still didn't answer the question about the archive type.

It really sounds like the file you are trying to unpack isn't a valid ZIP file, maybe some other archive type with wrong extension.
When you look at the file with F3, does it start with the characters "PK" (without the quotes), or something else?

Random in what sense? The same file sometimes failing and sometimes not? Or some files fail and others not?

Can you post a link to a (test) file that fails?

You use a weird method for unpacking. When you open the zip and select all files, you should then use Copy. When you use the unpack button the selection of files inside an archive is ignored. When using the unpack button you normally would select 1 or more zip files and click the button.

The dialog you show in your video, is the dialog for unpacking a zip file without going into it - usually opened with Alt+F9 - but since you are already inside the zip file you should just copy the files with F5.

Using cm_UnpackFiles (Alt+F9) as you do inside an opened zip file will not unpack the marked files, but the files indicated in the "Files to unpack" box.

I cannot say why the way you do it works sometimes, and doesn't work other times, but it is NOT the right way to extract files from an open archive - use Copy (F5)

Guys, the reason i unpack like that is because the normal way (F5) gives the error message!
To quote myself: "sometimes i can only unzip if i do the following".

Next time i have the problem and it's something i can share, i'll post a link!

Dazzer,
It would be more useful to see the problem happening on video rather than seeing the case when everything goes well :)
