Half-way: now Word starts as expected, but the file icon is blank
That's intentional - the association is still faulty/incomplete. In my tests, such a file association opens the "Open with" dialog until I check the option "Always open with this app" in that dialog. I don't know why it directly opens Word on your system.

BUT! obviously, it will not hurt you in any way to do a complete uninstall of the entire Office and reinstall it from scratch.
a quick repair - also a rather good scenario, but uninst|reinst - is much more effective procedure;)

Hello friends!

I have been using Total commander for about 20 years, every day.

I have a saved config, which I have been simply copying between different computers for several years now, wherever I use the program, I have never had the same problems as described by the author of the topic. I usually use Windows 10 LTSC OS.

However, after installing and transferring the config to a new computer with one of the Windows 10 LTS builds, I encountered the described problem - .docx files opened in TC as "archives", and also - they did not have a Word icon. (.doc - everything is good with this extension).

I checked everything in the Windows settings - .docx files were associated with Microsoft Word and opened in Word through the "Explorer"!

I followed these recommendations:
Right-click on a .docx file.
Click on" Open with...".
If you don't see Microsoft Word in the list of "Other options" - click on "More apps".
Click on Microsoft Word.
Click on "Always use this app to open .docx files".

Then - restarted Total Commander - and everything worked correctly!
And I was already thinking about reinstalling Windows :)
