FTP panel/bar

Post by *redsolo »

ive just started using the TC program after ive got tired with a crashing eplxorer. And i have a few questions.

1. Is it possible to get rid of the FTP bar? The button bar under the normal button bar? The one containing "FTP" "Transfer mode" etc. Since I already have a very good ftp program, I dont need that bar there.

2. When I want to copy a file to an empty dir, I always get the "Upload file" dialog thrown at me, and since I most of the times dont want to rename the file, i click ok. IS there any way to copy the file directly without having to see that dialog every time?

3. It would be nice if the folder display line ("c:\", etc) could be editable. Then you could easily copy and paste a folder path into it. The normal Explorer does this quite nice, when you enter "c:\t" it will show all folders that begin with t (tmp, temp, etc)

1 n 2 are quite important, 3 would be definetly an improvement.

Cheers

Is this a preinstalled TC on your working place? I'm asking, because you seem to be connected to an ftp site. If you disconnect, the ftp bar disappears automatically.
3.) it is editable, in versions 6.0 and above. Just click once on the path.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Drag&Drop the file. Don't think its doable using the keyboard.

It is editable. Click on it or press Home, Shift-F6.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

That would only work if you are not copy to an FTP-Server. According to your description it seems that you are copying to one. Otherwise the message would not be 'Upload to' but 'copy to'.

The TC was installed by myself. And the suprising was that the FTP panel was shown from the begining. Since I never told it do any FTP connections or similar, then I did not expect it to be connected. Anyhow, by pressing the disconnect button it disappeared as you said (DOH!). (But why press disconnect when I never connected?) This is all due to the WinCE plugin, which acts as a FTP client. This plugin was probably the reason I saw that panel/dialog.

About 2. Im doing DnD between two folders on the c-drive, just selected 1 file and dragged it onto the other pane, then I get another dialog stating "Copy "yadayada" to...." and here again I need to press Ok to copy the file. I would expect that dialog would show up when there is a problem, or doing a special copy-command (renaming, etc), not a simple copy. If there is no file with that filename in the destination folder, it should not ask me whetever I want to copy it or not. Actually, the same thing should go for FTP transferring as well. Or is there any option somewhere that I missed?

4. Another feature I miss, (since Ive been using too much explorer=mouse intesive) is to press left mb and drag a box to select the files I want. Im aware that there are other ways, shift, etc. But I really miss the explorers box-drag.

Anyhow, im starting to use more and more keyboard commands, so TC might stick around for a while

:) Hello !
About 2. I'm doing DnD between two folders on the c-drive, just selected 1 file and dragged it onto the other pane, then I get another dialog stating "Copy "yadayada" to...." and here again I need to press Ok to copy the file.
- You can disable the Drag & Drop confirmations messages in Configuration >>Options >> Miscellaneous >>
Uncheck the box : “Drag&Drop…”
- You can too use the mouse and some keys together in the selection or to move the files, etc.
- TC is also designed to be used with a mouse, that I do the most time, although I'm not specially a newbie :P
- The Help and the Famous free decorated Tutorial are gold mines, a good reading that I recommend to you :D

 Kind regards,
Claude

If you configure 'Configure->Options->Operation: Mouse selection mode: Use right mouse button (as in NC)'
You don't get the box for selecting by rightclick with mouse but you can select all files by right mousclick and move the cursor over the files. Moreover you can release the button leave out two or three files and select the next files.

If you touch a selected file when you press the button the mousecursor deselects the files.

While I highly recommend to read the tutorials, too, you neverthless should not hesitate to post a question to the forum. That is what this forum is for: Ask questions about TC.
What Clo intends to say is, that you can take big benefits in reading the Tutoriall, because there are many not obvious functions in TC you can learn this way. ;)

I absolutely agree. IMHO new users have to give TC quite a try to discover some of TCs Killer-features (Multirename, Quickview, Dirbranch,...), bcause they're hidden somewhere in the Menus. I myself needed some "TC-practicing" to discover some of TCs vast options and possibilities. And I'm still learning...

I think, a few small hints for new users could shorten this time. Maybe some Tipps could be displayed while installing TC with a short description of some of its great features.
Another option would be to add some TC-commands to the default toolbar. See my screenshot here, I added a few icons for TC commands I use quite often
