Post by *neverthelesshello »

you can Select/deselect files using a mask you specify.
using the numpad
can you do this without a numpad i.e. if you have a laptop?

It's rather straightforward...

Configuration > Options... > Misc. > Redefine hotkeys
Hotkey: (select '+')
Command: cm_SpreadSelection
Click OK.

How would you do it, add some extra page to Configuration for laptops only? IMHO silly idea.

oh found it now , will test it out,
but how will + key work as if you have no keypad - are using a laptop then to get the + key you have to press the SHIFT key first
have tried changing it to CRTL with the S key but the apply button is greyed out

also I think it is a bit ignorant to have selection features that you cant use because you have a laptop which is very common - so that means a lot of people- so yes there should be a default easier solution

neverthelesshello,
apply button is greyed out
Use the green tick instead.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

ok just for anyone else wondering about this,
maybe I was not clear in my post as there is an easy solution no one mentioned
just make a new button on the toolbar and point it to "internal commands" Mark/and choose cm_spread selection or cm_SelectFiles to just select files not folders
so you dont have to re-define keyboard shortcut

I was wondering, which keys do you guys assign to "Select Group", "Unselect Group", "Select All", "Unselect All", etc. commands on keyboards without numeric keypad?

Now that keyboards without numeric keypad are very common, it would be nice if Total Commander came preconfigured with some other keys assigned to these commands (in addition to current numeric keypad keys).

What do you think?

For Select All, I use CTRL-Right arrow, and for Unselect All, I use CTRL-Left arrow. Works well on my laptop keyboard.

I haven't chosen anything for Select Group or Unselect Group. I don't use them very often, so I just use toolbar buttons for them.

I just found out CTRL+A works as "Select All" in TC out of the box. This is standard for "Select All" in many programs and exactly what I wanted. Sweet!

Hi,

I know this is an old thread, but since I was looking for an elegant solution for being able to use selection shortcuts in tc (num +, num -, num *) on laptop without numpad, I want to share my solution.
  • 2. Remap keys in powertoys keyboardmanager as you wish. My configuration which I find usefull is pasted below. My selection keys are [CTRL]+[8] (Num *), [CTRL]+[-] (Num -) and [CTRL]+[=] (Num +):
(Sorry it's not possible to change powertoys language, so you remap keys in 'shortcuts' section):

Is it possible to remap Fn keys: [Fn]+[8], [Fn]+[-], [Fn]+[=]?

Without MS Povertoys you can remap like this in TC:

Code: Select all

[Shortcuts]
C+8=cm_ExchangeSelection
C+OEM_+=cm_SpreadSelection
C+OEM_-=cm_ShrinkSelection
C+OEM_.=cm_ExchangeSelection
