Yes, I have a hotkey for this, but since there is auto switch mode in TC, it would make sense to implement function like this.

Re: Make sorting of directories "Like files (also by time)" the default.
Excuse me but I confused...
What I want is this:
Show in the panel (default view):
1folder <DIR>
2folder <DIR>
3folder <DIR>
4folder <DIR>
5folder <DIR>
1fileA size
1fileB size
2fileA size
2fileB size
2fileC size
2fileD size
3fileA size
4fileA size
4fileB size
4fileC size
What I want: (sort alphabetical)
1folder <DIR>

1fileB size
2folder <DIR>
2fileA size
2fileB size
2fileC size
2fileD size
3folder <DIR>
3fileA size
4fileA size
4fileB size
4fileC size
4folder <DIR>
5folder <DIR>
and, as far as I know, isn´t possible in TC.
And with lot of duos like these:
filenameX.htm file
filenameX_files folder
it´s an important option

NO, TC doesn't support mixing of files and folders, sorry.

Hi. You may not like this setting. OK, that's your perogative. Requesting for it to be removed from settings though is like completely removing it from TC. Many users do not search the .ini settings. Not at first at least, so this setting will effectively become non-existent. Personally, I happen to like it so even if its default value is set to False, i vote for it to remain in the settings window.solid wrote: 2022-06-30, 09:01 UTC Yes, I meant disabled by default. I've disabled mine decades ago
Furthermore, I would like it moved to .ini settings instead of taking valuable space in configuration window.

Re: Make sorting of directories "Like files (also by time)" the default.
A work-around is using the Everything GUI script which will deliver mixed lists if configured for this.
In the resulting file list TC will display files and dirs mixed if the view is configured for it.

Re: Make sorting of directories "Like files (also by time)" the default.
My comment at Wednesday 29-03-2023, 13:13:54 was about the original suggestion to make directory sorting the default - since yet another user couldn't find this option.
Even Explorer sorts folders by date or other columns, so I guess new users are surprised that TC does not do that by default.

I totally agree with this. I've been using TC for over a decade and still missed this when I tried to look through a folder structure for the latest changes...

Re: Make sorting of directories "Like files (also by time)" the default.
Instead of messing with the options, why not just add it in TC's "Show" menu, under "Unsorted"? ->
Clicking on the "Sort directory Like Files" would put a check in front of it and change the relevant Options setting to "like files". Clicking it again would revert the setting to "always by name". Should be pretty obvious to new users and more user friendly to all.
Code: Select all

That's why I'm against it.
There should only be a corresponding checkbox for switching in the Configuration->Options if an entry is created manually in wincmd.ini beforehand, which activates the checkbox itself. So that only these knowledgeable people can see the checkbox itself in the Configuration -> Options. A 2nd factor...

Good idea, but the command for that: cm_SwitchDirSort shows a checkmark when used in the menu when "Sort directories like files" is DISABLED, so the menu item needs to be called "Always sort directories by name" instead, to properly reflect the state set with cm_SwitchDirSortClicking on the "Sort directory Like Files" would put a check in front of it and change the relevant Options setting to "like files"

This is topic is NOT about an option to mix up files and folders, it is ONLY about making the option that already exist "Like files (also by time)" the default intead of "Always by name" in the "Display" -> "Sorting directories" setting. Please read the first post again.
I cannot help that some other posters, mixed the ability of mixing up files and folders into this thread
