CAB Create v1.4 (for Total Commander 9.0-11.51)

CAB Create is a working environment for customizing the INSTALL.CAB file found in Total Commander installers.

I wanted to know how to recreate INSTALL.CAB from a Total Commander installer using the tools available in Windows. Then I had me some fun and created this package. Maybe it will be useful to someone.

People who are creating a custom installer for Total Commander may want to make changes to INSTALL.CAB included in the installer. The purpose of this package is to provide a working environment to customize this file.

To decode this file:

  • Unpack the zip file
General method of operation:
  1. Copy INSTALL.CAB from a Total Commander installer to this folder.
    (Tip: Select an installer and press Ctrl+PgDn)
  2. Execute "CAB Extract.cmd". This will unpack the files to one of the source subfolders.
  3. Make your adjustments to the source files.
  4. Make your adjustments to the relevant .ddf file.
  5. Execute "CAB Create.cmd" to create a new .CAB file.
To test the working environment skip step 3) and 4) and verify that the newly created .CAB file is identical to the original.
