Copy the filenames to document

Post by *bazt3 »

I would like to be able to copy a list of all filenames from a folder that are newer than a certain date. Can Total Commander help me?

Configuration - Button Bar, define a new button there with either the command cm_CopyNamesToClip (Copy filenames to clipboard) or cm_CopyFullNamesToClip (Copy names with full path), depending on if you want to include the path in the list of the files. You can add two buttons, too, if you want to.
Next, press Ctrl-F2, Ctrl-F5 - now you have the files sorted acoording to their date. Select the files you want to copy into the list and press the button you have defined before. Now the filenames are in the clipboard and you can paste them into any editor or whereever you like.

BTW: You can also define a shortcut for those internal commands in Configuration - Options - Misc.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Ok. Thanks. Seems like there is a lot to learn.

What I am wanting is to copy all filenames to a document that were created for instance after July 2004.

The Total Commander interface is kinda different than many. I am noticing that for instance, when I right click on a filename, I do not get a menu.

Unfortunately, I notice many of the files I get on screen have been used recently. These are files that were changed often recently. However, I think they were created a very long time ago. I would like to eliminate everything that was created a long time ago. So in sum, the last file created should really appear at the top in my document with the date it was created, for example, 11/02/2004, 3:40pm.

Hold the right mouse button for a bit longer.

TC currently only works with the "modified" date. If you need to work with the "created" date, you'll have to wait until around the end of November when the new version will be released.

another possibility is to change Mousebutton behavior in TCs preferences: Configuration->Options->Operation->Mouse selection mode
If you change it to the left mousebutton, you'll get the usual context menu wit a right button.

There are a lot of other essential things configurable in the options and in the .ini file. Take a look at the help file or at clo's tutorial
