A shoutout to the people who made life easier

Post by *ruan567 »

Hi everyone,

I have been using Norton Commander (yes the old nc.exe) since the DOS days. Then I came across "midnight commander" on unix back in the day (and it is still part of every docker image I build, even if it is basic - it is damn powerful and a lot quicker if you know how to use it right) - and when Windows came along, it wasn't long - and this amazing company came up with Windows Commander.

I thought I was going to die and go to heaven. Right there :-)

I learnt every shortcut there is to learn, and appreciated the fact that you kinda stuck to the old nc vibe in how it works etc. I especially liked the fact that one could set the background and the foreground to look exactly like it did back then. (Blue backgroud, white text, yellow highlighting - I still have my TC set up like that to this day, and it is the first thing I change when I install it)

Since then, I have introduced literally 1000's of people to your product. Every PC we built, I had control over the image and baked your shareware version into it, adding a link on their taskbar by default so people can try it out, and a LOT of people found it useful, and completely abandoned using the stupid windows interface.

I just wanted to say, you guys are awesome, thanks for doing what you do - I could never afford buying a proper license, but I don't care clicking a 1 or 2 or 3 (sometimes it does catch me out though :-) for people like me - you are the reason software developers exist.

WELL DONE.

You guys are superstars - and don't quit. There's a lot of people that can use Windows effectively cause you make it happen.

Do a deal with MS and replace Explorer. The world will be a better place :-)

Greetings from a sunny South Africa
Ruan

Oh btw I am a sysadmin/coder myself, so if you need any help with the project I'd be happy to donate some time to give back a bit.
I am not a Windows programmer (more web-orientated) but if I can contribute in any way I would be happy to help.
