solved [TC 11.00b1] Saving tcDirFrq.txt

Post by *petermad »

tcDirFrq.txt should NOT be saved if "Options" -> "Operation" -> "Save on exit" -> "Directory .history" is disabled - it could be a security problem.

On the other hand saving the History with cm_ConfigSaveDirHistory should also save tcDirFrq.txt

And pls add the option to disable the creation of such 'freq.list' at all!
I want to use only ordinary List of last visited directories. As it was done in all prev. versions of TC.
List which saves inside [LeftHistory] and [RightHistory] sections in wincmd.ini
And also add a "Clear All" button/menu item in this new "Directory List" window.
so that I don't go into wincmd.ini and delete they manually.

That's what petermad suggested.

You can already hide it in the context menu of the history.
And also add a "Clear All" button/menu item in this new "Directory List" window.
I'm considering this, but you can now delete the entries with Shift+Del. Just keep it pressed to quickly empty the list.

I only suggested it when saving history on exit is disabled, that's not the same as disabling it exclusively.

You can already hide it in the context menu of the history.
What I can hide? I am talking about exclusively disabling of collection, current storage and permanent saving to a file of these Freq.Dirs!
This section is not hiding right now. These Freq.Dirs are permanently present above the horizontal list separator of the normal folder history.
https://ibb.co/2ZCrwCs
Again - I want to disable listing of these 6 items + hor. separator in this picture.
By the way - nowhere is it written what these numbers on the right mean. Even if the guesses that this is the number of visits to them are correct, this is completely unnecessary information. It does not simplify or improve the essence of the "directory I have been in recently" element in any way.

I will disable saving to tcDirFrq.txt when saving the history is disabled. If you want to disable just tcDirFrq.txt, set a path where TC cannot write, e.g. c:\windows or c:\nul

How about not saving to tcDirFrq.txt if DirUsageLocation=

Isn’t that a bit too far-fetched? I’d even say terribly overdone.
much easier and more logical for a regular user to just specify somewhere in the GUI settings a checkmark - do not save/do not generate.
Rather than to constantly remember that ONLY this way and ONLY this problem is solved by pointing out some non-existent way

I disabled the maintenance of this Freq.Dirs list And yes - it stopped showing up in the "new menu" of the regular directory history.
BUT!!! it turned out that the FILE of these frequent folders is still maintained and updated! It is unacceptable!

It will not be maintained in beta 2 when you disable "history" in "Save on exit" settings.

That good to hear :-) but some users might still want to save the ordinary history, but not the frequently used history.
