Re: With DarkMode=1 crashes in Wine.
It works with Wine 8.5 on Fedora 37, so it's probably a bug in Wine 8.
You can try simulating Windows 7 or 8 instead of 10, so Total Commander doesn't try to call the special Windows 10 dark mode functions (they are probably not implemented in Wine
. You can do this with the tool winecfg.

Christian,
Can you also please look at "stuck" of Alt key in TC in Linux Mint or Ubuntu under Wine? Something is wrong with TC under these varieties of Linux. Periodically you need to hit Alt few times to clear this stucking. Or possibly offer an option to remove the functionality when you keep Alt and click on the folder or file to see "properties for the resource" - 0.001% of people even know that, let alone to use this property for the resource
Downgrade to Win8 is probably not always an acceptable solution for some software

Re: With DarkMode=1 crashes in Wine.
I never got the stuck Alt key on Linux. Are you using a virtual machine? It can happen when you leave the virtual machine with Alt pressed and later return to the virtual machine with Alt not pressed. Anyway, when it happens again, please report what you did just before it started happening.

Re: With DarkMode=1 crashes in Wine.
Christian,
We discussed that in the other recent Linux thread ("TC works on Linux"). This happens for sure in Ubuntu and Mint, the two most used Linux versions. You do not have to do anything for this to start. Initially all looks ok but in an few minutes of work ALT stucks and to clear it you have to push alt few times and normal work continues. Very annoying. You do that 100 times a day. The other brutal annoyance happens when you try to start Editor with F4 and do not know that Alt is already stacked. Then when you push F4 the Alt+F4 kills the TC

Re: With DarkMode=1 crashes in Wine.
I have never seen this on a real machine, only in a virtual machine, but this was a few years back (bug seems to be fixed in VirtualBox).

This problem is in real Linux machines.ghisler(Author) wrote: 2023-05-12, 13:52 UTC I have never seen this on a real machine, only in a virtual machine, but this was a few years back (bug seems to be fixed in VirtualBox).
Of course the reason could be in wine, like "in vino veritas", but only you who would determine that
As a temporal solution I suggest to make optional alt+mouse or alt+cursor directory property no one uses because when alt gets stuck anything you push on keyboard or click shows this directory property list. May be this will help

It could be, here someone had this problem in 2021 when using Alt+Tab:

Re: With DarkMode=1 crashes in Wine.
Yes, this could be feature/bug of all Debian installations (Ubuntu and Mint i tried) but things are they as most used Linux distro will never change. By the way other Commanders are not affected by this feature/bug.

Re: With DarkMode=1 crashes in Wine.
Have you tried my workaround?
TC sees that Linux reports itself as Windows 10, tries to call Windows 10 functions, but they don't work. What am I supposed to do when the functions just crash? You can try simulating Windows 7 or 8 instead of 10, so Total Commander doesn't try to call the special Windows 10 dark mode functions (they are probably not implemented in Wine)
