Compare By Content - Different Filenames

Hi,

I do a considerable amount of Compare By Content with files of different names usually files that I have edited and append the name with the date or a version number.

When the Compare by content dialog box opens, one side has an empty file name field and I have to locate the file. Many times the files are located deep in different folder so it takes some effort to locate the file. To make it worse the file could be in a folder on my NAS (which I do not map, thinking its a little safer) so I have to wait for network path to open.

Is there anyway, maybe a configuration option, to get the Compare By Content dialog box to open with the different filenames?

I was just clicking on the files in the left & right windows, not realizing they weren't really selected.

Gral, your including (highlight) in your reply was especially helpful.

I've used TC since it was Windows Commander and never realized (when working with a single file) the difference in where you click, on the name or icon and the difference in cursor color vs selected (mark) color). All my single file activities, other than Compare by Content, for example; delete, F3 list, F4 edit, F5 copy F6 move, all work fine with the name displayed with cursor color.

Working with multiple files, clicking in the filename area works fine for selecting.

If you want to compare two files with different names, one from each panel, you actually only have to select (highlight) the file in the non-active panel, in the active panel it is enough to just place the cursor on the file.
