(solved)[11.0b] "Options/ 8 Explorer preview" in Lister is still limited to 50kB texts

Hello Ghisler-Team,

could you please lift the 50kB limitation in the Lister when displaying a text-only file and selecting "Options / 8 Explorer preview"?

Steps to reproduce:
+ open your very own History.txt with F3, then select 8. You will get an error message indicating the 50 kB limitation.

Why you should fix this:
the "Explorer preview" is a very good and flexible viewing option. It gets all the font scaling right, no matter what dpi the display is, it has line numbers and does the word wrap correctly at the window's border, something that the "1 only text" option cannot (and maybe should not) do.
In addition to that, you can easily zoom the text with Ctrl-+ and Ctrl--, which is very comfortable.

I am using Win11, all patches, TC [x64] 11.0b9

I don't have any line numbers in Explorer Preview for .txt files.

I do, and I do not use any additional lister plugins.

Did one more test.
Make sure that you have set:

Lister / Options / Configure / Multimedia
[X] Use preview handlers from explorer

otherwise, the Explorer will not get called.

So it's not a problem with TC, it's a problem with shell extensions you have enabled in Explorer.

As you can't change the size limit of an Explorer preview handler
and there is none which handles very large files,
why don't you use a much better *.txt viewer like the CudaLister plugin.
I have no problems to view files larger than 100 MB (I have set its limit to 350 MB).
This also allows searching, select and copy text from the preview
which you can't do with the Explorer preview handler.

Hello Horst,

thank you very much for pointing me to the CudaLister, which I might try out later.

I am aware that I can combine other lister and editor plugins with TC, but my case here was some unxepected behaviour of the built-in lister.
I did not remember to have installed any (file) explorer preview tools.

I tried on another PC (Win10/64), which I updated from 10.52 release to 11.0b9, and that PC did not show the issue.

But with the hint form Andrzej (Usher) I dug deeper into that PC to find out about the explorer extensions.
Long story short, I had installed Microsoft's PowerToys, which comes with a source code formatter named "Monaco".
This is part of the PowerToys' default installation, and - for a reason I do not understand - it is associated to *.txt files, too.
If you disable "Monaco" in the PowerToys configuration, the issue disappears.
