Search by attribute filter

Post by *krymson »

I'm having some trouble with the Search tool.

How would i search for all files which are hidden?

Why are there two shades, bold, and grayed out for check boxes? what do they mean? I don't understand this behaviour at all. Consider a directory with some read only files:

If i search for file attributes: read only, with a gray check mark I only get files which have no attributes listed.

If I search read only, with a black check mark I get no files.

Empty = file must not have this attribute
Grey = don't care about this attribute
Checked = file must have this attribute

take Hidden attribut as an example

Checked: mean the file you search for must be hidden

UnChecked: mean the file you search for must NOT be hidden

Gray: mean do not care of hidden attribute (that is a file will be listed in search result if it is hidden or not as far as it meet your search requirements)

the same rules apply for other attributes

Ah, so if i wanted to find all hidden files I would gray check everythingbut hidden, which would be boldly checked

It would be nice if this was in the help file, or if there was a legend on the search tool.

I can't say I've seen this interface or behavior before, and it does make sense when you understand how it works, but it can be very confusing without explanation.
