[]TC11.00rc3] Multi-Rename-Tool: strange results from the [Nx-y] patterns

Post by *tdklaus »

Had a strange behaviour of the Multi-Rename-Tool today.
TC11.00rc3, fresh wincmd.ini , Win10x64 22h2,

Tried to rename about a dozen folders on a server with names between 15 and 45 characters long (no special characters, letters, numbers and underscore only).

Tried setting a rename mask, but got strange results from the [Nx-y] patterns I entered (sorry, didn't record any details), so I treid the N#-# button.
In the filename box it only showed the first 10 characters of the first folder name in my list, no chance to select anything beyond that point.

... a few minutes later:

found the problem - a dot in each folder name, so everything after that gets treated as [E] - is this the expected behaviour for folder names?

You can use placeholder I:

Code: Select all

[I][Nx-y]

Yes, this is the expected behaviour for file names, so for folders too.

In open MRT, press the F1-key and read the help for alternatives:
[A] Old file name, WITH extension (All characters of the name), without the path

Also there is now since Total Commander 11.00 beta 5, Wed May 31, 2023

What's new in beta 5:
Multi-rename tool: New placeholder [ I ] or [I1] to ignore dots in folder names: Entire name in [N], [E] is empty.
Neu in beta 5:
Mehrfach-Umbenenntool: Neuer Platzhalter [ I ] oder [I1] zum Ignorieren von Punkten in Ordnernamen: Ganzer Name in [N], [E] ist leer.

[A] works for files and folders. (Old file name, WITH extension)
[I] works for folders only. (ignore dots in folder names)
So it depends on which items you have selected and want to work on....

HTH? :D
