Wiki login issues

I have now modified AuthPhpbb.php to work with current phpbb. Please try logging in now!

I can now login to both English and German wiki with current forum password, and also in addition, on English wiki only, with my former forum password (which I set before). It's interesting that in preferences of my account on German wiki I see the account creation date as 17:51, 23 May 2021, while on English wiki my account exists since 23:04, 2 October 2009. Anyway, now I able to login on English wiki with 2 passwords.

As I mentioned above, I see it more secure to have the passwords on forum and wiki different. Could some UI be added to forum or wiki user panel so user could set the password separately for the forum and wiki (or even separate passwords for English and German wiki)? I guess technically this should be somehow possible. Maybe it's fine if by default for convenience the password will be the same everywhere...

That may be your wish but I don't want to get a different login for TC forums and wiki.

I found this information:

You can log in to the wiki with the same user name and password as here in the forum.

But I was also unable to log in (Wiki German/English) - despite the deletion of cookies.

I can now log on to both the English and the German Wiki with all my account names - except for my pɐɯɹǝʇǝd account - because of illegal characters

I have checked this now, and apparently a lot has changed in the forum software. The login via phpbb worked like this:

Strange, I can login both to the English and German wiki, and I didn't make any recent changes to the Wiki either.

It seems to me that the older the account that I try to login with the better chance of being able to login to the wiki - but not entirely:
I can login with my accounts from 05-02-2003, 30-04-2007 and 24-07-2018, but not with my accounts from 23-07-2018, 25-07-2018 and 31-07-2018.

I didn't make any recent changes to the Wiki either.

But you did update the TC forum software <viewtopic.php?p=406186#p406186> since you wrote this: <viewtopic.php?p=401937#p401937>, so maybe the bug is reintroduced because of that?

It could be caused by the hash algorithms used to store the forum passwords. They are not stored in plain text, but as a sort of checksum called a hash. Newer forum versions use more secure hash functions, but old accounts may still have their passwords stored with the old method if you didn't log into the forum with these accounts since the new method was introduced. When you log in, you enter your password, which gives the forum the opportunity to store it with the newer, more secure hash.

Could you send me the names of your accounts via e-mail, so I can verify this? Please do NOT log into the forum with the accounts which still work, this may block your access for them too.

I can follow up on thei and inform that currently I can login with all my TC'accouns on https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/

But on the other hand I can not login with any account on https://ghisler.ch/wiki/ (without the www subdomain prefix)

It is probably because when I click on the button "Log in with PluggableAuth" I get transferred to https://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/ - cookies, localStorage etc. usually does not work across subdomains.

OK, I have added a redirect which looks for variable
title=Special:UserLogin
or
title=Spezial:Anmelden

and then redirects from ghisler.ch to www.ghisler.ch. This means that you can still browse the wiki without login on ghisler.ch, but will be redirected to www.ghisler.ch when you try to login.

And if you are logged in and go to https://ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php?title=About for example, it shows you are not logged in. Isn't that confusing for people? Wouldn't it be better to create a general redirect from ghisler.ch/wiki/* to www.ghisler.ch/wiki/* ?

Almost all people just use the wiki to look up things. If you look at the history of changes, there are about 5 per month on average. I don't want to block people from browsing via ghisler.ch if they just want to look up things.
