Directory Hotlist Editing is a Nightmare
Inserting a sub-menu entry automatically moves every entry beneath it into it. This is a real pain, and also makes it nearly impossible to alphabetise the contents of the hotlist directory.
Is there a fix? or a workaround please?

Use http://utceditors.totalcmd.net/ -> Directory Menu Editor.
And next time please use the search, TIA

Not confirmed. How do you inset a sub-menu entry?ArthurASCII wrote: 2023-08-15, 16:08 UTC Inserting a sub-menu entry automatically moves every entry beneath it into it.

No, such problem here.
Adding a new sub-menu correctly creates an empty one.
All items below or above it are left alone.
Don't know what TC version you are using.

Not confirmed either. When I click on "Add submenu" and enter a name, it creates two new entries:
-new name
--
All older entries appear below the -- entry and are therefore not part of the new submenu, unless you either drag entries between these two, or drag the -- entry down.

Re: Directory Hotlist Editing is a Nightmare
I am using the current version, and have been a registered user since the days of Windows Commander V2 (yes, I'm that old).
Now try moving the newly created subfolder to sort it alphabetically. When I do this, the result is an incorrect nesting of all of the files below the relocated subfolder.
Is there a way to edit the hotlist sourcefile? and if so, where can I find it?

Of course, you destroy the format if you try a simple sort.ArthurASCII wrote: 2023-08-16, 19:59 UTC I am using the current version, and have been a registered user since the days of Windows Commander V2 (yes, I'm that old).

There is no problem to move entries with inside the config screen.
An alphabetic sort is not yet available, but you can script one.
