Hello,
Both folders consist file named _MG_1066.CR3.
File in left folder has different size and date, compared to file in right folder. And of course content. The only thing which is common is the file name.
When I do Mark->Compare directories
File on the left side stays black, while file on the RIGHT side gets red/selected. File on the right side is bigger and newer.
If I switch panels, then file on the LEFT is now bigger and newer and it gets selected.
Similar thing happens when using Commands -> Synchronize directories:
selected are: "files to copy from left to right" + "duplicates"
If bigger and newer file is in the right panel, "Compare" gives empty list
If bigger and newer file is in the left panel, "Compare" shows it on the list to synchronize.
Why?
Goal:
I have muliple SD cards from camera. Some of them are mirror copies, some consist different photos but file names are the same as on other cards.
I'm copying everything to one big folder. So: I put first card, copy everything - easy.
Then take another card and... would like to compare if this card contents are already at the destination. I can not.
Is there any way to achieve this in Total Commander 11?

Re: Compare directories - consider file size
Synchronize dirs marks newer files with arrow "->" unless you check "ignore date". Then they will be marked as =/=

Then different photos with the same name will not be overwritten.
If you don't see the advanced options in your Copy dialog click the button [Options >>]. Click the push-pin button to keep the Advanced options open at all times.
You can also use the Synnchronisation tool and check the option "by content", then you will not get the exact same files transferred.
Some times image files can be altered, but the image itself is the same, files like these can be found with the Sync tool by checking the option "by content" and the click on the little [++] button for comparing with plugins. Here you can add the plugin Image ( http://totalcmd.net/plugring/image.html ), then image files with the same image but different file content will be found .
When you copy the second or later cards, use the Advanced copy feature: "Auto-rename copied".See: https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/autorename.pngI have muliple SD cards from camera. Some of them are mirror copies, some consist different photos but file names are the same as on other cards.

petermad:
"Auto-rename copied" is half what I need as if both files in source and target dir are exactly the same, TC still makes unwanted copy in target dir.
Synchronisation "bo content" is quite troublesome as cards are 128GB each and target dir goes over 1TB.

This turns out to be best option. Synchronize directories
Choose "ignore date", "left to right", "unqeual files" (So "equal" files are not on the list. Good.)
Then I choose everything on the list and set "Mark for copying -> "left to right". Then Synchronize with selected "Confirm overwrites".
TC gets first file with the same name, shows Overwrite question, and I choose More options -> Auto-rename copied
Done.
Thank you!
