How about threading ?

Post by *bofla »

Two improvements that are mandatory:
Adding threading to every time-consuming process. Lets say, I do alt+shift+enter, and if I do it on my 250gb drive, it takes some time, and I cannot do anything untill it finished. Good thing would be for that process to be threaded and run in the background on that side of TC, so I can do something else on the other side untill its finished.

Other thing, to add a watch when I execute process from za .zip file, and not a dialog to click ok when process is finished.

Maybe there is something more, but this is the two most irritating things among all the good ones :)

It is threaded already, you can cancel the process by pressing ESC anytime. This is not exactly what you want, i know, so wait for the authors answer too.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

I dont want to cancel it, I want it to finish, but for change it can just take one side, leave me other side to work with !:)

#1. Wait for TC 6.50.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

On a similar note, how about things like directory updates? I often have to browse servers located at remote office locations where the network connection leaves much to be desired (it's slow). While TC is busy fetching the directory contents in one pane I would often like to be e.g. changing the directory in the other pane as well but this is currently not possible. I have to wait for TC to have fetched the whole directory listing on the remote server before I can switch to the other pane.

I wouldn't consider it a big problem, it just "interrupts the flow" when I have to wait for TC to finish.

You may try my DirSizeCalc plugin for background directory size calculation.
Unfortunately Alt+Shift+Enter calls on content plugins are not supported by Total Commander at the moment.
