Copy+Delete instead of Move?

Post by *doux »

Hello!
I cause the locked file to be moved by F6 to a subfolder. A dialog appears "Could not delete file" → Skip. A copy of the file appears in the target subfolder. Thus, instead of moving, the program does copying and deleting. Is this normal behavior? Is this customizable?
Neither Explorer nor Double Commander do this. If the file cannot be deleted, the file is not moved or copied.

P.S. All this happens within one partition on the local disk.

It's normal as in "designed this way". I've been annoyed by it countless times, and consequently have been complaining about it several times.

Unfortunately not. But you're very welcome to make a suggestion, or support existing ones. Pretty sure you'd get a lot of support for a well written suggestion.

Well, in other cases a move operation would always be copy+delete ;).

It turns out that this is done specifically only for locked files? Can you give links to your complaints?

Probably. Still no reason to start copying, and thrashing the disk, without the user's consent.
Can you give links to your complaints?
Note that I didn't create threads/suggestions myself, I just commented.

At least there's some hope in the last one where Ghisler joined the discussion.

Oh, so it turns out that the topic is already in the suggestions, and Christian postponed the implementation until the next versions. :)

Thanks for the links.
