is it possible two line mode in file list?

Post by *jgh0721 »

You are using TC 11.0.1.

Most of these tools display file information on a single line. However, many files these days have very long filenames, so I want to display each column on two lines, as shown below.

-----------------------------------
| filename |
|filesize|dateTime|attr|blah|blah..|
-----------------------------------

is it possible? or any plan implementation?

No there isn't and it doesn't make sense either. There is an option which helps with long filenames: Options > Display > [X] Show filename in file list as tooltip if truncated. For reaaaalllly long filenames you can also switch to vertical view via menu Show > Vertical arrangement. Note that you need to change the Name column's width yourself when switching to/from that view.

Note that you need to change the Name column's width yourself when switching to/from that view.
Not if you enable: "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Tabstops/Data Formats" -> "Adjust Tabs to window width"

A keyboard shortcut can quickly maximize the width and height of the source pane, and another shortcut can restore the width to 50%. The shortcuts can retain the usual locations (tabstops) for the file type and subsequent fields, depending on vertical or horizontal orientation. Shortcuts to do this are listed in viewtopic.php?p=350383#p350383. If the second shortcut is pressed again, the divider will toggle between vertical and horizontal orientation.

If the filenames cannot be seen entirely, even with the pane width at 100%, and it is practical to edit the filenames, some of the information could be moved from the filenames to file comments (Files > Edit Comment). File comments might not be convenient if the files would be maintained in compressed form. If several long filenames contain the same string, the string could be moved from the filenames to a parent folder name.

Sometimes, it might be convenient to allow wrapping of very long filenames in the TC file list. Would the wrapped part of the filename use space normally reserved for the file type and subsequent fields? If so, the appearance could be messy. If not, then with a large font and a narrow pane or small application window, a wrapped file name could exceed the pane height; limits would be needed. Allowing variable line counts per file might interfere with rapid display for huge file lists, maybe the same sort of problem that would interfere with the display of line numbers for huge files in the Lister.
