wish list - regular expressions

Post by *captjlddavis »

I would like to see the ability to "create" regular expressions - similar to that in AgentRansack.

It's only a wish......

TC is still the best File manager around.

Thanks Claude,

I realize that TC handles Regular expressions.
I appreciate you excellent Tutorial.

Agent Ransack allows you to "construct" the expression from a dialog box.

It's just a wish, maybe it is already there and I just didn't find it.

Thanks again

Doesn't seem planned for a while…

Hi again,
- Indeed, there is no dialog currently to build RegEx without the needed knowledges for the average users…
- Unfortunately, I didn't see such a feature in the next version 6.5 which should come soon… :|
- You could launch a plugin request (or check if such a plugin already exists…) in the "Plugins …" forum.
- Or else, this could be a wish for the future version that should follow 6.5 ( probably 7.0).

The lack of a "Dialog" box for regular expressions certainly DOES NOT effect the use of an already great program.

I wait for the next release of TC.

Thanks again for you assistance.

Nice idea but I'm afraid that there are many other more expected functions and Christian won't decide to add it.

Anyway: If you have problems to define a regular expression you should send a request here because many advanced users are willing to help.

hello,
options like reg ex with agent ransacks help people which dont use such things every day and don t want to read long helpfiles and explanations.
i think there s a little disadvantage using TC, at least for new users: many features and handlings you have to know.. (after reading helps and lists of hotkeys).
For me,i would welcome more options like whished by captjlddavis implemented in TC, modern programms have to be 'intuitiv'

Well, regular expressions in multi-rename and search are more for the advanced users. The [N] and similar placeholders with buttons to construct them in multi-rename tool, and the * and ? placeholders in search are meant for the "normal" users.

Speaking of [N] and other placeholders, is it possible to have button for pulldown menu with all placeholders listed ([P], [G], [F] etc..), to quickly insert the needed one, but also to have overview of all available placeholders?

Like in (first thing that comes to my mind) MS word find/replace dialog, the button for inserting special characters.

Hmm, interesting idea! Unfortunately I will use the remaining space for a new content plugins button, sorry...

If really needed, one could write a script in MacroExpress or similar (Aezay's TC Script?) to show a list of available choices. Thing is though, by the time one writes the macro, he learns all the placeholders by heart ;-)
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

that did i mention with intuitiv, put more of the good options and possibilities of TC in dialogs an menues, some people have fun to "find" options in lists and helps, but i think only few people have much time for it.
What about TC version "advanced" (offered konfigurated with expanded menues and dialogs) and "lean" (user konfigurated)??

But don't you think that this way extra space can be gained?? There will be only one button for inserting placeholders, instead of five. All placeholders will appear on the pulldown menu in which this button will expand when clicked.
And will be easily possible to expand it with future placeholders (if anyone can think of new ones  ) just by expanding the list.
