SumatraPDF preview pane extension crashes TC with some files

Post by *bxx »

I use SumatraPDF as my pdf reader, and I have it set up so that it shows up in the File explorer preview pane.
However when I use it in TC (by opening a pdf in Lister, then pressing 8 to use the Explorer preview pane), on some PDFs it crashes TC completely. In File explorer these PDFs show up in the preview just fine, which leads me to think this is a TC issue.

Here's an example of such a PDF: https://www.mediafire.com/file/29mvp5z0f83vp37/1-s2.0-S1385894719300920-main.pdf/file
I have a few more, I can share them if necessary.

TC version is 11.02, sumatrapdf is 3.5.2 (the latest stable), OS is Win11 23h2. I already tried running with an empty config file, doesn't help.

Hi,

Which Lister plugin do you use after calling F3 Lister?

I can display the PDF file with "SumatraPDF-3.5.2-64.exe" without problems as follows:

(Note: Only sLister always has a focus problem!
However, clicking in the title bar of the lister solves the focussing problem).

F3 - Lister (slister) - [D:\___TMP___\1-s2.0-S1385894719300920-main.pdf]
8 - Lister <Explorer> - [D:\___TMP___\1-s2.0-S1385894719300920-main.pdf]
4 - Lister (slister) - [D:\___TMP___\1-s2.0-S1385894719300920-main.pdf]
4 - Lister (ulister)
4 - Lister (irfanview)
4 - Lister (sumatrapdf)
4 - Lister (pdfview)
4 - Lister (slister) - Loop ...
8 - Lister <Explorer> - [D:\___TMP___\1-s2.0-S1385894719300920-main.pdf]
4 - Lister (slister) - [D:\___TMP___\1-s2.0-S1385894719300920-main.pdf]

Ctrl+Q - 1-s2.0-S1385894719300920-main.pdf - slister
Click on the path line in the other window - focus e.g. in the right-hand TC window
4 - ulister
4 - irfanview
4 - sumatrapdf
4 - pdfview
4 - slister - Loop ...

If several Lister plugins are used, the following may help:
In the "Configuration" menu > Options... > Plugins > Lister plugins (.WLX) > Configure
move another plugin to the top that can display pdf files -> with the arrow keys,
which are located to the left of the "Add" button.
Note: The plugins are processed from top to bottom.

Then perform a TC restart, e.g. with command: CM_EXIT 13
-----
However, there are some TC forum users who have a problem with SumatraPDF-3.5.2
and therefore use the version SumatraPDF-3.4.6.

Because of version SumatraPDF-3.5.2, a TC user even made a report on Github at the time.

I have no problems using this file with SumatraPDF x64 version 3.4.6
in the Lister plugins SLister and SumatraPDF.
This SumtraPDF version is the only one I can suggest, as it doesn't have the focus problem.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3737)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1382a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.3, Listary Pro 6.3.0.78

Nothing happens for me here.
Interestingly, not all Lister plugins call up the "Lister <Explorer>" view after pressing the number 8.
In these cases, the view can only be called up via the "Options"... menu.

I assume that you are using TC 11.02 64-bit.

I don't have any Lister plugins at all, I'm using Sumatra's preview pane extension that normally shows in Windows Explorer.

However installing the Sumatra TC plugin that was recommended here (this one) and pointing it to my Sumatrapdf exe seems to work. I guess this is solved.
