Win11: "New txt file" is missing from the right-click menu
After the transition from Win 10 to 11, the New > txt file option is missing from the right-click menu.
I was with TC ver. 10.0, updated to 10.50 - no change.

Re: txt file is missing from the right-click menu
That has nothing to do with TC version, other file managers have the same problem in Windows 11.
There is some entry missing in the registry.
Try the following fix:

I doubt it. Windows Explorer has it.

BDY Bitdefender showed up in the right-click menu in Win 11.

Re: Win11: "New txt file" is missing from the right-click menu
That's odd, my Windows 11 PC (not updated from Windows 10) does have the "New text file" entry both in Total Commander and in the Explorer. I don't see any reason why the "New" menu in Explorer should have this entry and TC doesn't.

The RegEdit fix did not worked for me. Any other ideas? (Windows 11, TC 10,51, File Explorer has new>TXT)
Re: Win11: "New txt file" is missing from the right-click menu
As said in my Windows 11 system all is fine, in TC and in Explorer.
Using TC you don't need such a context menu entry.
Shift-F4 is the way to create a new text file in TC without any need for a context menu.

Which editor is associated with the text file type?JohnLemon wrote: 2022-09-10, 10:05 UTC The RegEdit fix did not worked for me. Any other ideas? (Windows 11, TC 10,51, File Explorer has new>TXT)

@John Lemon - This reg-file from tenforums.com fixed the missing right-click option in TC on Windows 11 (22H2) for me.

Re: Win11: "New txt file" is missing from the right-click menu
I agree. I have a second PC which was also with win 10 and TC v. 10, and last week updated to win 11. The text file is still in the right-click menu of TC. One PC has it another doesn't. I see only one difference - it doesn't work on win 11 Pro but works on win 11 Enterprise.

I have encountered exactly the same problem, what should I do? Do you have a solution?g200 wrote: 2023-03-24, 13:05 UTCI agree. Re: Win11: "New txt file" is missing from the right-click menu
In Windows 11, Microsoft has moved "New text file" to the new collapsed context menu. This menu is not available to 3rd party programs like Total Commander. Strangely I do have the "New" - "Text file" also in Total Commander in Windows 11. Maybe it needs some other registry key.
