Menu Files - Associate with doesn't work when the user used at least once the context menu function "Open with" - "Always open with". Windows blocks this so programs and installers can't grab a file association which a user has explicitly changed.
In this case, you can only use internal associations to override the Windows associations.

Perhaps this statement can be added to the help?ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-01-25, 09:41 UTC Menu Files - Associate with doesn't work when the user used at least once the context menu function "Open with" - "Always open with". That's a good idea, I will add it.

So do I, since switching to Win10. This OS is really fighting you all the way, adding more and more vague registry keys, so the third-party programs fail to set up the associations correctly. But the Windows interface is really ill-suited for assigning lots of extensions, which may be required for programs like image viewers or multimedia players. Although the TC's Associate dialog isn't much help for such a scenario either…petermad wrote: 2024-01-25, 08:44 UTC Personally I have most success associating files in Windows by the file context menu, chosing "Open with" -> "Choose another app", and then check the option "Always use this app to open .xxx files"
Thing is, I did all the tests in a separate Win10 virtual machine exactly for that reason. On my main PC I'm using IrfanView, and I didn't want to risk it with having to reassign all the file types again. And that VM I used does not have IrfanView or any other third-party viewer, that's why it was suitable for testing. I'm sure I have never changed the image file type assotiations in that virtual machine. I could do it and then forget, of course, but there's simply nothing to assign them to…ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-01-25, 09:41 UTC Menu Files - Associate with doesn't work when the user used at least once the context menu function "Open with" - "Always open with". Confirmed added to TC 11.03rc3Help wrote:Warning:

Re: [11.03rc1] Photos app does not show all images
I am sorry to add to this closed discussion, but I don't get it.
I have Windows 11. After reading this discussion, I got an impression that the painful long lasting issue has been fixed in Total Commander 11.03, so I updated to this version. But the behavior is still the same. When I click on a jpg file, Photos app shows just that single file, it is not possible to traverse the current folder with keyboard. In contrast to this, when I open the same jpg file in Explorer, it allows to traverse the folder.
My questions:
- What exactly is supposed to be fixed in TC 11.03?
- What is the purpose of those TCShareWin dll files and how to use them? And do I even need to take them from that zip file when using the final 11.03 version which seems newer?
- What is that mentioned "The "PhotoViewer.dll" checkbox"? And where should I see it? I can see nothing like that in Files-Associations or anywhere else.
Before going to Windows 11, I used the old Microsoft's photo viewer on my previous machine, but it did not open some photos. Like 5% of files from my phone were not displayable in that program. No clue why, all other programs can open them normally. And this Photos app seems to actively prohibit alternative file manages to call it. That's why I was really happy to read that there is some solution. But maybe I just misunderstood the discussion.

If you continue to use this "app" to view photos, then please do not be surprised that with the next update from M$ you will receive software that does not show anything at all. It’s better to think about what other stable and more convenient application should replace this "defect".

Re: [11.03rc1] Photos app does not show all images
It was fixed, but then Microsoft released an update of their photos app which broke the function to pass multiple file names to it.I got an impression that the painful long lasting issue has been fixed in Total Commander 11.03
The new photos app requires a different function, which the old photos app doesn't support.
Total Commander 11.50 beta supports both of these methods, so it should work again with it.
