It just shows the start screen forever.
I also deleted the totalcmd.ini file and did a fresh install.
Operating System: Windows XP (yes its a old legacy system)
Any Ideas?

Re: Total Commander hangs at startup
TC doesn't use a totalcmd.ini file by default. If it does on your system, you probably changed the name during TC setup.
To get to the culprit I suggest to check these registry keyswhich path to its INI file(s) is specified in IniFileName. Then check the files given in these paths in their sections [left], [right] and [LeftTabs] and [RightTabs]. Look for e.g. inaccessible network drives.
If you don't need to keep any settings, you can just delete the registry keys and the files referenced by them. After dealing with the INI files TC can be reinstalled.
The quickest way to check if the system itself is the culprit is to start TC with a fresh wincmd.ini, like this:Existing wincmd.ini files won't be touched in this case.

Code: Select all
HKLM\Software\Ghisler
HKCU\Software\Ghisler

Re: Total Commander hangs at startup
The HKCU\Software\Ghisler pointed to a ini file in %Appdata% which was the one I deleted.
However the
totalcmd.exe /i="%TEMP%\fresh.ini"
did the trick. It started and after I closed it and started it again without the parameters it worked.
Thanks

Re: Total Commander hangs at startup
Now it would be interesting to know what your problem ini file contained. Maybe it had the left or right path set to an inaccessible network drive?
