The Google warnings did not say that it would only affect new users. The warning was:

If you do not verify your app, your app will be subject to an ongoing 100 user limit and your app’s consent screen will display the [url=https://support.google.com/cloud/answer/7454865?hl=en&ref_topic=3473162&sjid=17599124197462166324-NA#unverified-app-screen]unverified app user interface[/b].

Option 1: Do Nothing (under 100 users only)
No further action is required from you if:
You do not want to verify your app and you are ok with your app being subject to a 100 user limit, and your app’s user interface indicating it is an unverified app.

Maybe you were one of these first 100 users to use the plugin after the plugin became limited. Or the 100 user limit doesn't apply to users who used the plugin before it became restricted, but the Google warning didn't mention that at all.

Now it seems to be over... Access to Google Drive is no longer possible with the old version of the plugin. Access denied for safety reasons (or something like that.)

I can still access Google Drive with the old app, as long as I keep my current Google Drive entry in the [|FSPlugin|cloudplugin] section of wcx_ftp.ini - but if I delete the Google Drive entry, I can no longer get a new.

So I installed version 2.80 of the plugin and after two attempts of enabling the Google API I got it to work.

Because "Google Drive API" was not in the list of APIs I first thought they had changed the name, so I tried "Google Cloud APIs" but that did not work.

So maybe change item 5 in the API manual from:
5 Click on "Google Drive API"
to
5 Search for "Google Drive API"


Also there is a typo in item 33 in the API manual:
33 Pick the json file you downloaded above. Altenratively, you can enter client id and client secret separated by a comma

My wcx_ftp.ini has no cloudplugin section and probably never had. The file change date of my wcx_ftp.ini is Dec 21, 2023, but the cloud plugin still worked a week ago (or so).

I have successfully enabled Google Drive access with the new method
but it was a nightmare
For me, the Google menus and sequence are not as described in the instructions.
I had to guess where the settings from the instructions has to be applied.
Now it works, but I can't describe how I solved it
