Re: F7 button label

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

the Extended Menus package from Peter is an "extraction" of all the "default strings" (english) of TC.
It is the official WCMD_ENG.LNG from here: https://plugins.ghisler.com/languages/wcmd_eng.zip

Ok thanks for the links.

By the way, I was not aware of the 2 links below (that you referenced in this thread). I was not able to find it directly browsing https://www.ghisler.com/ website. It is like it is "hidden".
https://www.ghisler.com/b/difres1100.zip
https://plugins.ghisler.com/languages/wcmd_eng.zip

I don't get it but that's not important I guess... In that official WCMD_ENG.LNG file, I found line "1076="F7 New Folder"" while the defaut (the "internal" string) is "F7 NewFolder". Well...
Thanks,

jonathanpoulin wrote: 2024-07-18, 09:04 UTC I am not sure I understand, white. I just wanted to know if the WCMD_ENG.LNG found in the Extended Menus package from Peter is an "extraction" of all the "default strings" (english) of TC.
I see. If I take the Window 10 package I see it contains wcmd_win10x86_eng.zip and wcmd_win10x86_eng.txt, and wcmd_win10x86_eng.txt contains the text:
wcmd_win10x86_eng.zip is a self installing archive containing several Addons for Total Commander:

1: Extended Icon Set for TC (with 48x48 icons) (wcmicon_win10x86.dll, wcmicon_win10x86.inc).
2: Old Style Help for TC (totalcmd.hlp, winhlp32.exe).
3: Dark Help (totalcmddark.chm, wcmd_deudark.chm).
4: English Standalone Lister (lister.exe, lister.exe.manifest).
5: Extended File Comments for TC (descript.ion).
6: Folder Icon for TC (desktop.ini). Write protect TC's program folder to see the icon.
7: Official English language files (wcmd_eng.lng, wcmd_eng.mnu and wcmd_eng.inc).

You can install this package from the Menu: "Help" -> "Install Addons for Total Commander". If the files already exists, you will be asked whether you want to overwrite them.
See point 7. It is not an extraction, but they are the official external English files released by Mr. Ghisler.
(oops, it was already answered ;) )

Btw, F7 also creates virtual folders, e.g. on connected Android devices, not only directories.

Thanks white for your answer. But yes I saw it, the point 7, before posting. I just thought "official external English" was synonym of "extraction" of all internal strings TC is using, literally.

Oh, that's a good point! So, I see why you kept "Folder" in "F7 NewFolder". The missing space makes it weird a little. But anyway, we can change it by ourselves...

Maybe it's because "NewFolder" is in use since the first version of "Total Commander" and because before that "Windows Commander" used the label "MkDir" for F7 and "RenMov" for F6, like Norton Commander did (which was the inspiration for Windows Commander).

Yes, an "historical" reason probably. This is what I was thinking yesterday.
