If you open a photo in Explorer, then the Photos app has buttons next and previous file
but if you open a file in the same folder in the TC, then there is no these buttons

Re: Windows 10, Explorer vs TC: different image navigation
Thats a known limitation of the Photo app which only supports this if started from Explorer.
One solution is to configure the old Windows photo viewer in TC
or better use one of the available TC image viewer plugins.

Re: Windows 10: Photos app can't browse previous / next photos!
Finally it has been added (fixed) in Total Commander 11.50 beta 1.
Source25.06.24 Added: Windows 11: Open the Photos app with new command ("ms-photos:viewer?fileName=Encoded_filename") to enable previous/next buttons (32/64)
Re: Windows 10: Photos app can't browse previous / next photos!
Not entirely, as this has been fixed for Windows 11, in Windows 10 (which this thread is about) the problem still exists though.

I cannot reproduce the problem in Windows 10. Can you check in Windows settings - Installed apps which version of photo viewer you have? On my Windows 10 systems I still have the old version 2019.19071.12548.0 which works with the way TC 10.0x calls photo viewer.

My system (Win 10) has Photos app version 2024.11100.16009.0 and there are no prev/next buttons when opened from TC (currently 11.50 Beta4).

That's the newer one from Windows 11 which uses a different method to get the arrow buttons. I wonder how you were able to install that on Windows 10, I can't update it here. Anyway, I will try to use the function from Windows 11 also on Windows 10 when detecting the newer photo app.

I just checked - I have Photos v. 2024.11100.16009.0 on my Windows 10 PC, but I can also see that I got is today after an automatic Windows 10 update.
So maybe you just have to wait.

Oh, I got the exact same one too now! It indeed uses the new method of the one on Windows 11. The update was dated November 7, 2024.

Hi All,
Not sure if it will work for everyone, but i have found a solution for this.
Using total commander go to a folder that contains images.
left click one image.
left click "Files" then "Associate with" and select "PhotoViewer.FileAssoc.Tiff (C:\WINDOWS\System32\rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll", ImageView_Fullscreen %1)"
This gave me the classic "Windows Photo Viewer" and tadaa, the back and forward buttons are there (Also the left /right arrows on the keyboard work)

Did you read entire thread?
On first page is advice how to restore old app - viewtopic.php?p=305763#p305763
But this thread is about new app and it's behaviour. There are some other threads about replace new one with old.
Even special ini settings exist for this.
Here are some quotes from TC's history.txt file regarding photo apps:
(not all of them are about browse images though)

25.06.24 Added: Windows 11: Open the Photos app with new command ("ms-photos:viewer?fileName=Encoded_filename") to enable previous/next buttons (32/64)
22.01.24 Fixed: Menu Files - Associate With: Show option to redirect opening of image files to "PhotoViewer.dll" also on Windows 10, now toggles PhotoAppFilter=- and ReplacePhotoApp (32/64)
19.01.24 Fixed: Updated DLLs TCshareWin10.dll/TCshareWin10x64.dll to open multiple files with Windows Photo app were not included in RC1 by mistake (32/64)
22.11.23 Added: PhotoAppFilter field: Replace .??? with the extension of the viewed file, e.g. PhotoAppFilter=System.FileExtension:=(".jpg" OR ".???") then only scrolls through jpg files plus the same type as opened (32/64)
22.11.23 Added: Configure which types of images to pass to Windows Photo app in addition to the double clicked file: wincmd.ini [Configuration] PhotoAppFilter=filter string using Microsoft syntax, e.g. PhotoAppFilter=System.FileExtension:=(".jpg" OR ".png") Set to - to disable (32/64)
21.11.23 Fixed: Windows 10 and newer: Open Windows Photo app with current directory parameter so it can switch through all images in the same folder as the opened app. Only works with Enter/Double click (32/64)
25.10.17 Fixed: Windows 10: ReplacePhotoApp option didn't work when using an internal association with ** set as program name (32/64)
03.12.16 Added: The replacement of the Photos app with Windows Photo Viewer (desktop program) can now be disabled in Files - Associate With..., the option is only shown for affected extensions like jpg (32/64)
05.09.16 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] ReplacePhotoApp=0 turns off replacement of photo app by Windows Photo Viewer (32/64)
05.09.16 Fixed: Windows 10: Instead of the useless photo app, open the old Windows Photo Viewer if it is installed. It allows to switch through all images in a folder even when called from other programs than the Explorer (32/64)
