[TC 11.50b6] Test archive(s) in virtual desktop folder
Copy a zip file on your desktop
Execute cm_OpenDesktop
Click the zip file in the virtual desktop folder
Press Alt+Shift+F9 (test archives)
TC shows the misleading error: "Error in archive file!"
Since unpacking works, why not Test archive?
Execute cm_OpenDesktop

Re: [TC 11.50b6] Test archive(s) in virtual desktop folder
Many functions which need direct file access do not work in virtual folders. Why not just open the ZIP with Enter? Then you can test it.

Re: [TC 11.50b6] Test archive(s) in virtual desktop folder
Since unpacking works, the test function should be able to work too. And regardless, the error message is misleading. There is nothing wrong with the archive.ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-11-17, 09:43 UTC Many functions which need direct file access do not work in virtual folders.
How is the user supposed to know that "Error in archive file!" means that the archive is fine, but you need to open it and then test it?ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-11-17, 09:43 UTC Why not just open the ZIP with Enter? Then you can test it.
Additionally, the help only mentions testing selected archives. It does not cover testing an archive while navigating inside it, or the fact that testing archives in virtual folders is not supported.

Re: [TC 11.50b6] Test archive(s) in virtual desktop folder
Unpacking with Alt+F9 doesn't work either, it uses the same function. But it's not hard to add, so I will add it. However, I fear that you will come up with a new function you want supported per week to stretch out the beta test forever. Please don't do that.Since unpacking works

You're right, must have used another way to unpack while testing.ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-11-18, 07:53 UTCUnpacking with Alt+F9 doesn't work either, it uses the same function.Since unpacking works
My main concern was not that the function was not supported, but that the error message was very misleading.ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-11-18, 07:53 UTC However, I fear that you will come up with a new function you want supported per week to stretch out the beta test forever. Please don't do that.
Re: [TC 11.50b6] Test archive(s) in virtual desktop folder
Tested OK using TC 11.50b7 32-bit and 64-bit and the folders \\Desktop, \\Pictures, \\Videos, \\Music, \\Downloads, \\Documents.HISTORY.TXT wrote: 17.11.24 Added: Unpack and verify archives located in virtual folders like the Desktop if a local path to the file is available (not working e.g. for Android phones) (32/64)
(Nitpicking: either use "Desktop" or "the Desktop folder" in your description in HISTORY.TXT)

Re: [TC 11.50b6] Test archive(s) in virtual desktop folder
Thanks for confirming the fix!
What do you mean? Wouldn't writing "in virtual folders like the Desktop folder" redundant when I only mention "folders"?either use "Desktop" or "the Desktop folder" in your description in HISTORY.TXT

Re: [TC 11.50b6] Test archive(s) in virtual desktop folder
This should work now in beta 7! Additionally you can now also unpack test archives via lnk files, e.g. test.lnk pointing to test.zip, as long as there is no packer plugin able to unpack lnk files themselves. This works both in virtual folders and normal directories.
19.11.24 Added: Unpack and verify archives (Alt+F9): If a .lnk file isn't recognized itself as an archive, unpack the link target instead (32/64)
17.11.24 Added: Unpack and verify archives located in virtual folders like the Desktop if a local path to the file is available (not working e.g. for Android phones) (32/64)

Re: [TC 11.50b6] Test archive(s) in virtual desktop folder
No, in this context, you cannot simply leave out "folders". You either include it or refer to the folder name "Desktop" instead of the object "the Desktop".ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-11-20, 18:00 UTC What do you mean? Consider this analogy: Suppose there are multiple people who behave similarly to Mr. Ghisler. Let's call them "Ghisler people". You cannot shorten the line:
toI talked to many kinds of people, like Ghisler people.
Omitting "people" fundamentally changes the meaning, just like omitting "folder" changes the context from a specific folder to the general workspace the Desktop.I talked to many kinds of people, like Ghisler.

Unpacking works. Testing an archive via a .lnk file does not work.ghisler(Author) wrote: 2024-11-20, 18:28 UTC Additionally you can now also unpack test archives via lnk files, e.g. test.lnk pointing to test.zip, as long as there is no packer plugin able to unpack lnk files themselves. You are right, only testing two or more selected lnk files and/or archives works!Unpacking works. Testing an archive via a .lnk file does not work.
