piranha,
it was not targetted specifically to you, so don't take it personally.
I am only trying to elaborate why we do what we do.

piranha:
I just erupted seeing two posts moderated one after another one.
If the posts were moderated for a reason then I don't see a need to "erupt".

From what I see here boards are pretty free. It's pretty rare occasion to see anybody "step out of line" (comparing to boards I moderate).

When somebody DOES step out of line it is only right for the mods to step in and let the person know that what he's doing is not allowed. It might be more convenient for a everybody else if mods just deleted the post. That way nobody would really notice anything wrong.
This would however be even worse then leaving the post and letting the person involved know what he did wrong. The reasons are simple.
1) The person involved doesn't "blow up" coz his post just vanished.
2) It lets the person know what he did wrong so he can correct his ways

Also mods HAVE to post as impersonal as they can. Users have to know that there is nothing personal between the moderator and the moderated user. Posting in a personal way makes the moderator a target AND makes them look like they have something against the user which is usualy very far from the truth as they are only doing their job.

I am an admin myself... and I have the ability and authorization to delete/move messages/threads. I can rename threads, I can even ban users for a specific amount of time or delete their accounts alltogether.

People sometimes react VERY badly to deleted posts. They are able to accuse mods of anything simply because nobody can really see what was posted. On a populated board that invites arguments since people inevitably take sides based on no real info.

ANyways I am making this way to long.

IMO the mods here are doing a good job and they are free to moderate everything and anything I write (not that I can really change that :P).

As piranha was saying, you don't notice being in a moderated forum when it is run by sensible moderators. In this forum, moderators' intrusions are constant and most of the time completely unwarranted. They are intolerantly picking at every little thing, which is probably the main reason for tensions in this forum.

I also can't agree with you.
I read the forum very often and in most cases (or maybe even in all :-) ) moderators do what they should do - move the posts to the right forums, delete forbidden links or just help people who "forgotten" to read the rules of the forum.
Very seldom they have to react for bad behaviour of forum members.

I also disagree.

But let's talk numbers if you like to prove that (if possible).

As of this moment, we have 45538 articles posted in this forum. I was wondering
if there is an easy way to count the moderated references just to illustrate
the moderation percentage. I'm sure it's a figure of the following format: 0.0x % ;)

We do not moderate retroactively, you know...

You do? And still you suggest to compare number of moderated messages to total number of messages on this board, majority of which were written before moderation was introduced?

A paradise for puerility.

That was for the eyes of those who oppose to my opinion not for me.

And of course the counting would have been after the introduction of moderators. Sorry, my bad! ;)

I find the comparison between moderators and n@zis about as disgusting as Prince Harry (Windsor) disguised as a N@zi. We should all be very grateful that we don't live in that time...

Hmm I've been rather critical myself towards the way the moderators used their moderator powers, especially at first.

But I also really feel that this has improved much since then. And even thou they didn't exactly liked my comments, they respected what I said and I no longer see them comment in peoples post - which was what annoyed (actually infuriated - theres a difference between moderation and editing) me the most.

And calling them 'nazis' - fancy spelling or not - is way beyond fair I think. If you don't like the forum rules (which you accept when you join the forums), don't join. It's Ghislers site, he sets the rules of conduct. I gotta tell ya, anyone calling one of my moderators a '****' will be presented with a nice "You've been banned - stay the hell out forever, will ya!" message on next visit and permanently.

[edit] ahh now I see why the 'fancy' spelling is used - even worse, getting around the wordfilter is another major sin  [/edit]
