Hi,
Everything Options - 1.5.0.1383a (x64) > General > ✅ Start Everything on system startup

This option is also interesting, for example:
wincmd.ini - section [Configuration]

Code: Select all

Everything=C:\Everything\Everything64.exe -startup
The path to the file “Everything64.exe” may need to be customized.

Please see:
Search queries: Total Commander <=> 'Everything' <= Windows Search (English)
13. SETTINGS: For 'Everything' in Total Commander & 'Everything' -> from 'Everything' Version 1.5

Important:
Take the latest version of Everything 1.5a, which is currently 1.5.0.1385a.

Upgrade/Update & Everything Service (example):
- Completely EXIT Everything 1.5a (the icon in the systray should also no longer be visible)
- STOP  Everything Service (Ctrl+Shift+ESC: Task Manager -> Services: Everything...)
- Run Everything 1.5a upgrade/update to version 1.5.0.1385a.
- START Everything Service (Ctrl+Shift+ESC: Task Manager -> Services: Everything...)
- Start Everything 1.5.0.1385a (x64)

EDIT: Upgrade/Update & Everything Service
A bookmark in Everything 1.5.0.1385a makes the update easier as follows:
- Alt+X (Keyboard shortcut in Bookmark!) ... corresponds to: File > Exit.
  The 'Everything Service' will be stopped/terminated (but NOT uninstalled!).
- Extract the file: Everything64.exe from the file: Everything-1.5.0.1385a.x64.zip and overwrite the file: Everything64.exe
  in the installation path, e.g. C:\Everything\Everything64.exe (portable) or C:\Program Files\Everything 1.5a\ (installed).
- Start Everything 1.5 - The 'Everything Service' will be started AUTOMATICALLY.

In point 13. you can select one of three (mandatory) options.

Example: Point 13.2.b. ...
Everything.ini -> Everything-1.5a.ini

Code: Select all

alpha_instance=0
Everything 1.5.0.1385a (x64)
Menu "Tools" > Debug > Config > alpha_instance=0 > Save in Editor >
ALT - Tab: Change to Everything 1.5 > Confirm this message by clicking on the “Yes” button:
Everything wrote: Path\to\...\Everything-1.5a.ini

The Everything configuration file has been modified outside of Everything.
Do you want to reload the modified configuration file?

Everything will restart to reload the modified configuration file.
Everything will restart.
Done!

Everything.ini

Code: Select all

alpha_instance=0
Shouldn't that be: Everything-1.5a.ini and not Everything.ini?

To remove the Alpha instance suffix from file names
you have to create a file named NO_ALPHA_INSTANCE
without any extension, in the directory where all config files are stored.

And what is the benefit of that? it works well with Everything-1.5a.ini, and then I can easily revert to the 1.4 versions (for example for testing)

Yes, but who wants version 1.4 :)
The benefit is that after the beta state is reached, the ini-files are already there.
With the beta status, there will no longer an Alpha instance.

Yes, you are the first person to notice this after such a long time. 👍
Thank you for pointing this out (I have already corrected the “Documentations - EN/DE”).

Notes:
- This did not have any negative effect for the user.
- I have not noticed this error so far because I have been using variant: File: NO_ALPHA_INSTANCE - point. 13.2.c. for a long time.

void (Author) - 22.11.2024 gave an outlook on how things will continue after 1.5a, with regard to version 1.4 as well.
From 1.5 beta onwards, version 1.4 will only be of historical interest (in my opinion).

With regard to tests with Everything 1.4 <-> Everything 1.5, there is, for example, this topic:
Everything 1.4 feature changes in Everything 1.5

Note:
After updating to 1.5 beta (when the time comes...), I will NOT delete the file: NO_ALPHA_INSTANCE (without file extension!)
immediately (point 13.2.c.) so that I still have the option of running a test with an Everything 1.5 alpha version later if necessary.
In this case, all names, such as Everything.ini, Everything.db, Bookmarks.csv, etc. will remain UNCHANGED(!)

PS:
I have added the following above:
EDIT: Upgrade/Update & Everything Service
