Webpage about Lister needs updating

Post by *white »

The webpage about Lister needs updating.
URL: https://www.ghisler.com/lister

Errors mentioned in another thread:
white wrote: 2024-12-02, 15:52 UTC According to the changelog, the last version is based on Lister in TC 7.0:
lister.txt wrote: 12.06.07 Re-built based on Total Commander 7 final
The text on the Lister homepage is wrong:
Lister standalone homepage wrote: 32-bit Lister
English 32-bit version for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP: Same program as in version 6.5 of Total Commander.

16-bit Lister English
English 16-bit version: A lot smaller (from Wincmd 2.11), but without all the new features (HTML viewer, image viewer etc). Works on all Windows versions!
Other errors:
  • "Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP" should be expanded?
  • The links at the left are inconsistent. "16-bit Lister English" is one link on one line. The others are 2 links on 2 lines.

Mentioned many years ago, although was not marked explicit as a bug e.g.

That's not the same problem and that problem was resolved.

So you can still download the lister.exe version 20.06.2005 via the official Addons page?

I don't know. It seems odd to not link to the post where the problem is mentioned more explicitly.

Maybe it's better to just remove it entirely. It's awfully out of date and has been superseded by calling Total Commander with parameter /S=L. On the other hand, it may still be useful for those who need a free viewer.

I think it should remain available.
Removing it may cause a post like: "I saw here on forum in a 15 years old thread that a standalone Lister was available, where can I download it?"

Well the correct answer will be given that now this software is not available separately - just download Total and use it.

This is NOT the correct answer - this answer is correct only in the MS world.
Correct answer - then it will be shared by users.

Perhaps you should create a separate section on the website for legacy software. Things like 16-bit TC and lister.exe could be moved there. That way, it remains available without distracting from the software that is currently being developed and supported.

I second white's suggestion for a legacy section.

I have updated the page and added a section for directly opening the built-in Lister.

At the left it says "Buil-in Lister" (t is missing).
It makes more sense if the built-in version is at the top, because that is the newest version.
Mentioning 32-bit/16-bit and English/German at the right side as well seems overkill.
I don't think it is necessary to include that the 32-bit version works on "Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10/11".

Suggestion (also made some minor textual changes):
