Duplicate Right Pane from Left

Post by *Alonzo Mosley »

OK this is going to be tough to explain.

You know how when you open Commander, the two panes are where you last used them? Well sometimes I want both sides to be the same subdirectory.

So I go to the left, do the clickie thing up and down, and then I have to do the same thing on the right.

Surely there's a way, once I have the on the left where I want it, to make the right-pane "jump" to that same location.

Kim: What's wrong with it?
Dan: It's in several pieces on my floor.

I think this is what you want:
cm_SyncChangeDir (Synchronized directory change in both panels. Can have a parameter and can be configured by an ini setting, search the help for cm_SyncChangeDir)

Perhaps this can be useful too:
cm_MatchSrc (change the folder of the inactive panel to that of the active panel)

Or use them both as a combined command (cm_MatchSrc,cm_SyncChangeDir).

Use menu Commands - Target=Source.

Or use Ctrl+Arrow left/right to transfer a directory to the other panel.
1. If you do this from the source panel, e.g. press Ctrl+Right while in the left panel, it will open the directory under the cursor in the right panel.
2. If you do this from the target side, e.g. Ctrl+Right while in the right panel, it will just show the same directory in both (transfer from left)

As for me, this is one of the greatest Total Commander commands ever made.
I use it so many times a day, and each time I am mentally sending another thank you to the author.

A click on the same drive button above the right panel does the same. E.g. if the left panel shows d:\test a click on the d: button above the right panel switches to d:\test in the right panel.

A setting, I will never understand why one should like this behavior.

This is perfection. Thank you.

I could not get this to work... Which is the "drive" button? The drop down in the upper left?

I don't have a wincmd.ini in my [totalcmd] directory.

No, it is a row of drive buttons - configured in "Configuration" -> "Layout" -> "Show drive buttons".

The wincmd.ini file can be located in different places, depending on your choices at installation time. You can find the location of your wincmd.ini by clicking "Help" -> "About Total Commander" in the main menu.

You can open the wincmd.ini file via "Configuration" -> "Change Settings Files Directly" in the main menu.

Or you can type cd %COMMANDER_INI% and press Enter in TC's Command line to navigate to wincmd.ini. You can configure the display of the Command line in "Configuration" -> "Layout" -> "Show command line". If the Command line is not visible, you can press Shift+RightArrow on the keyboard to open it.
