Merging of older forums
I can understand some convenience of having forums like "TC7.5x(a) final bug reports (English)" though "TC11.x bug reports (English)" but isn't it time to merge all the older forums into one? Any post posted in such forums (bugs) should contain the exact version of TC in it.
Having a forum like "TC10.x bug reports (English)" looses a lot. What is .x in such cases? 10.0? 10.5? 10.52? Some beta?
Is it actually so helpful to have separate subforums for each TC version? As time passes, the list will grow larger...
Perhaps a new section "Older TC versions bug reports" could be created that contained the older forums and placed at the bottom. "Total Commander bugs and suggestions" could only contain "TC11.x bug reports (English)", "TC suggestions (English)", "TC Fixed bugs", "TC Behaviour which will not be changed" and "Bug reports from previous betas (unresolved)".

Re: Merging of older forums
The sections are called categories in phpBB. Categories are not the only thing that can contains forums. Forums can contain forums too. So instead of a new category, a new forum could be created that has the older bug reports forums as subforums. This way, these forums remain unchanged, but they do not appear as a long list in the main forum index.wanderer wrote: 2024-10-09, 18:35 UTC Perhaps a new section "Older TC versions bug reports" could be created that contained the older forums and placed at the bottom. For example, a forum named "Archive" could be created in the category "Total Commander bugs and suggestions" and all old bug reports forums could then be moved to the Archive forum. Here's an example of what that could look like::

This is easy to set up. Simply create a new forum named "Archive" and copy the permissions from a category in the process, so people cannot post in this forum. Then move the old bug reports forums to this forum.
Re: Merging of older forums
Yup, that seems nice. More compact and clear than having everything flat.

Re: Merging of older forums
The downside is that users can't see on the front page whether there are any new posts in one of the subforums.

Wouldn't that be an upside that users are not bothered by new post information in old bug reports forums?ghisler(Author) wrote: 2025-01-20, 08:25 UTC The downside is that users can't see on the front page whether there are any new posts in one of the subforums.

And if this information is relevant for new versions, then what?white wrote: 2025-01-20, 11:14 UTC Wouldn't that be an upside that users are not bothered by new post information in old bug reports forums?

Re: Merging of older forums
When TC30.0 is released, how many pages would a user have to scroll down to see if there is a new post in an old forum???

Re: Merging of older forums
It will still show up in New posts, Unread posts, Active topics and newsfeeds. These are all more useful than the last post in every forum.Fla$her wrote: 2025-01-20, 11:21 UTC And if this information is relevant for new versions, then what?
And all posts are read by Ghisler, so they would be noticed by him, which is most important.

But all this will not be displayed on the first page.white wrote: 2025-01-20, 11:52 UTCIt will still show up in New posts, Unread posts, Active topics and newsfeeds.
Are you 100% sure about this?
That would be great, but I'm afraid only our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be able to find out about it.

Thread split and further posts are moved to a the new thread Are all posts read by Ghisler?
