{not reproducable anymore}11.50/11.51RC3 Try to find *.* and get NULL

Post by *AntonyD »

Go into any folder, start Search dialog - enter the '*.*' text as a template for searching and run it.
And you will get nothing... Am I crazy?

Not Confirmef - If I enter:

Code: Select all

 *.*
in the "Search for:" field, TC finds everything in the current folder and all subfolders.

What do you mean by: "as a template" ?

Literally. That - what I search - is a template of the searching algo.
You call it "Search for:" field

So you enter *.* in the "Searh for:" field, click "Start search", and nothing is found? - I cannot confirm that - please test with a clean ini file.

Could you perhaps by accident have entered a comma in stead of a period?

Well, it is necessary to admit that it was/will be a bad bug. Floating.
Without even rebooting Total on some ten ? repetitions of the search with this template, suddenly completely self-repaired
and began to give out the necessary results ....

BY THE WAY - this in itself is a cruel bug. The developer should have highlighted some default font in which this character would be represented most clearly and understandably. Otherwise, it is really possible to get a substitution and not even understand why suddenly nothing works. Because this comma is just PHYSICALLY not rendered completely, it is slightly cut off when compared in the output in WinWord, using the same font as in Total.

Are you using 'Everything' ?

Without even rebooting Total on ten repetitions of the search with this template, I always get all files and folders.

You must find a reliable way of reproducing what you experienced.

Are you pressing [.] on the numpad? The actual character entered in this case depends on your regional settings.

Not al all here on my PC - and TC uses the System font for input fields, so blame Windows, not TC if you cannot see a comma properly.

You never answered directly whether you had accidentally used a comma.

EDIT:
My mistake - it is not correct that TC uses Windows System font for input fields - it uses the configured dialog font - sorry

Try setting manually "Segoe UI", "Verdana" or "Tahoma" as the main window and dialog box fonts.

Do you see the difference between "." and ","?

You never answered directly whether you had accidentally used a comma.
But HOW should I respond to this question - if I am SURE that I entered a dot?
I copied and pasted this line into WinWord and ONLY THERE I did confirm that it was a dot.
To check, I pasted a comma there and transferred it to Total back and confirmed that in ONLY it
this comma is practically not visible! Unlike its rendering in WinWord!

But in any case - I can no longer reproduce it correctly... We can close this topic.
Until next time)))
Try setting manually "Segoe UI",
OK, tried, yep - much better. But again - why does the question of choosing a starter font-set turn into a quest?
I'm not just looking for an unusually beautiful or simply rich-in-symbols font! No - I need to see by default the most
adequate font for displaying various little!!! (as comma and dot) things in the program's interface (especially considering
the fact that the font size in all variations in the settings is set by default very small - 8 and 9 pt).
And it turns out that we are still offered a font that least meets this requirement? Microsoft Sans Serif, 8!
siealex
those questions are not to you of course))))

ok, not a problem;)
so let's remove this topic to ... where?
By the way, there has been a clear need for a long time to introduce another forum's section
like: "processed requests that have been confirmed not to be bugs" since there is definitely
no point in transferring such topics to the current one: "Total Commander (English)".

It has become a general discussion, so "Total Commander (English)" is the appropriate forum.
