Question about Brief list mode
When switch from Full list mode to Brief mode, the panel list scrolls horizontally instead of vertically as before. I'm not very happy about it.
Is it possible it still scrolls vertically in Brief mode?
Is it possible it still scrolls vertically in Brief mode?

Why do you need Brief mode then?
This will be possible in TC 6.5: just make new custom columns set without any additional column, only Name and Ext that are always turned on.

Why does this mode exist?Flint wrote: Why do you need Brief mode then?![]()

Sometimes I have to check files or folders with long name.
Sounds good. I can wait.Flint wrote: This will be possible in TC 6.5: just make new custom columns set without any additional column, only Name and Ext that are always turned on.

I think Raymond actually means something else:
If you could scroll vertically in brief mode it woul look differnt then now.
You are in brief mode and there may appear 3 rows. you are on the last file of the third row and go down one file. The complete first row disappears and on the right a new row appears.
If it would scroll vertically instead it would disappear the very first file of the first row and on the last row it would appear the next file.
This would be sometimes more convenient.

Hmm... Maybe, but then such Brief mode should locate files not from top to bottom, but from left to right to ensure continuous file list:
file1 file2 file3
file4 file5 file6
Or some other method to go from top to bottom:
file001 file101 file201
file002 file102 file202
.......................................... <<< several pages down
file100 file200 file300
Both of them do not seem to be convenient (for my taste of course

Nope. If you have had Norton Comander you would see how it works:
file1 file4 file7
file2 file5 file8
file3 file6 file9
one scroll after
file2 file5 file8
file3 file6 file9
file4 file7 file10
Do you get it?

My previous post was about how I imagine possible solutions of vertical scroll implementations.
It seems, that NC and TC behave slightly different in Brief mode. I just forgot about it because I didn't use NC very long...
You example for NC is correct. The appropriate behaviour of TC in the same case will be:
file4 file7 file10
file5 file8 file11
file6 file9 file12
As I see, NC's behaviour may be treated both as vertical and horizontal scrolling: when you press down key, it scrolls one item down (as in your example); when you press right key, it scrolls one column right (from file9 to file12 in the example above). The current TC's implementation seems more convenient for me. By scrolling down in NC I cannot see what files are below the current position; scrolling down in TC shows me the whole column at once.

If I want to see in NC the files below the current positiion I press [page down]. Then the cursor remains at the current position but moves to the upper left, i.e NC scrolls he file list a whole page.By scrolling down in NC I cannot see what files are below the current position; scrolling down in TC shows me the whole column at once.

I hope that there one day is a version where name and extension can be turned of to ?Flint wrote:Raymond

(thinking of mp3s for example...)
Hoecker sie sind raus!
I know that.Sheepdog wrote:If you need only the brief view for showing long filenames it may be convenient for you to swithc to vertical mode: [Alt]+[w],[v]

But I'm also more comfortable with vertical alignment in the same time, as you know it can show more files than horizontal alignment.

In fact I did use horizontal alignment when I need to check long filename before. But today I found a handy way to widen panel. It's better for me to look long filenames by widening panel plus in Brief mode.
I guess there will be no problem when TC 6.5 comes. Can't wait.
