Please upvote my Feedback Hub report about the Photos app bug

Post by *ghisler(Author) »

I have now submitted a bug report to Microsoft's feedback hub, but unfortunately it will be ignored unless there is some support from third parties for the report. If you are using Windows 11, I would appreciate if you would upvote my report:
https://aka.ms/AAudewi

or if you are a Windows insider:

This thread was split from topic: [11.51RC4] Images can not open by Photos

You probably can also upvote the report when using Windows 10. To upvote the report, open the Feedback Hub app and log in with a Microsoft account and click the appropriate link mentioned above.

Text of the report:
Calling Microsoft Photos App 2025-11010-9001-0 or newer via ms-photos:viewer?fileName=name is broken

In Microsoft Photos 2025-11010-9001-0 and newer, opening a photo via URL in the form
ms-photos:viewer?fileName=Name
fails if the name contains spaces or accents which are URL-encoded, e.g.
ms-photos:viewer?fileName=c:\path%20to%20file\file.jpg

This worked in older versions like 2024-11120-5010-0 (which also accepts the unencoded variant).

Now the name has to be sent without URL-Encoding, e.g.
"ms-photos:viewer?fileName=c:\path to file\file.jpg"
When sending the URL-encoded name, the new version of the Photos app hangs and needs to be closed via task manager.

Since this is an URL, it should work with URL-encoded names, otherwise it can't be opened from a browser like Edge.

Impossible, I did not register for the Windows Insider Program.

You created the report with an account you used to join the Windows Insider Program. Feedback Hub reports from Windows Insider members are kept separate. That means only people who also joined the Windows Insider Program can upvote your report.

I'm not using an Insider version of Windows 11, the report doesn't mention Windows 11 insider, and I last used an insider version many years ago in a virtual machine. Again WTF Microsoft?

I don't think these things are relevant.

But did you leave the program?
My Start page in the Feedback Hub app has a button to become a Windows Insider. Do you have that too?

I have left the program now. Does it make any difference? Or do I need to delete and re-submit my report?

Edit: Now I don't have access to my own report any more.

This is the essence of this program and participation in it - you can create and send reports only if you agree with all its limitations, including the fact - that only "limited number of" people can see the report and participate in the discussion)))).
Those who also registered with it(((( And only.
If you want everyone to see everything, it's just a "general" discussion on their forums, where there's no guarantee that the representatives of the company will see anything and respond to the essence of the problem.

it's not just WTF, it's "damn you M$" level.

Thanks, I have upvoted.

You can easily switch Microsoft accounts in the Feedback Hub app. So I think you could also use two accounts and create two identical reports, one for Windows Insider members and one for non-members.

Do you mind if I split the posts about your Feedback Hub report to a separate thread, move it to the English forum and make it sticky?

Are you signed in to a Microsoft account in the Feedback Hub app? If so, and you get that error, that means you have joined the Windows Insider program and may be able to upvote the report for Windows Insider members (see the quoted link in the second post).

I have added the link to the Windows Insider bug report to the first post. If you are registered for the Windows Insider program, you can only see that report.

I signed in with my Microsoft account.
I never enabled to be a Windows Insider and never got any Insider Build, but Windows think so :(
After leaving it, I was able to upvote.
