TotalCommander & Avecto/BeyondTrust

Post by *dfev77 »

Our company is using BeyondTrust (previously Avecto) and with it there is a contextual menu entry "Run elevated ..." when you right click on an exe/bat/etc file. Unfortunately this contextual menu entry is available in Windows Explorer but not in TC.

Using TC 11.02

How can I troubleshot/fix this?

Do you run TC 32-bit? If so, the context menu item could be in the "x64" submenu. If it doesn't show up even there, it's possible or even likely the software shows this item only in Explorer. There are quite a few software products out there that do this, because their developers only test in Explorer (and might be too lazy to test in 3rd party programs).

ghisler(Author) wrote: 2019-01-03, 09:16 UTC TC uses the normal Windows context menu. However, some programs only support the Explorer, like some virus scanners. In some cases it helps to rename totalcmd.exe or totalcmd64.exe to Explorer.exe (first letter uppercase, rest lowercase), but not in all cases...

It was using the 32 bit one, it works with the 64 bits one.

Thanks for pointing it out.

PS: considering current ratio of 32 vs 64 computers maybe TOTALCMD.EXE should be x64 and rename the 32 bit one as TOTALCMD32.EXE

This would make many shortcuts, scripts, toolbars, and other solutions that use a fixed executable name on 32-bit Windows useless, so rather not.
Anyone can make this name change themselves.
