problem copiyng files

Post by *jjalaiza »

My problem is, I'm copying data from a HD with errors to another HD, and when it finds a corrupt file or a reading error, it waits for a while (very long for me) I suppose it's trying to read, can this time be shortened by limiting the attempts.

In this case, if I hit cancel, it also takes a while to accept the order, it could be, if not immediate, a few seconds.

Regards.

Have you selected the option to "Skip all files that cannot be opened..." (in the copy dialogue) ?

In the past I've successfully used a freeware app Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier https://www.portablefreeware.com/index.php?id=149 -- "allows you to copy files from disks and CDs with problems such as bad sectors, scratches or that just give errors when reading data. The program will attempt to recover every readable piece of a file and put them back together" -- might be worth a shot.

There is also a plugin "badcopy" which does this, but it's only available for the 32-bit version of Total Commander. If you use the 64-bit version, you can install the combined 32+64-bit version as an update.

Try 'Fastcopy'. It's freeware

https://fastcopy.jp/
English homepage.

I have been using it for years. It has a lot of features and is very easy to use.
- It will skip files, that cannot be copied, and then make a list of the those files.

Earlier, I have written about, how easy it is to implement it in TC.
Search the TC forum for 'Fastcopy'

You are welcome to come back to me with questions.
I can also post my Fastcopy settings and the implementation in TC, either as a button, or as a menu-item.

PS. As always I will not be participating in any discussions about the quality this software.
Earlier, some thought it was terrible.
I'm not the author and are not taking money or other bribery recommending it.
I just like it - as I like Total Commander and a lot of other utilities, that I find useful.
