Several seconds to delete file
When I use TotCmd to delete a file placed in Desktop, it takes several seconds before I am asked whether I want to move the file to Recycle Bin.
However, when I use Explorer, there is no delay at all.
It is in some way connected with OneDrive. When the file to be deleted is in a folder NOT associated with OneDrive, also TotCmd can delete the file without delay.
Can I in some way make TotCmd function as fast as Explorer?

Re: Several seconds to delete file
This is probably due to some Explorer extension.
To correct it, please try the following:
1. Get the free tool ShellExView:
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
2. Start it. If using Total Commander 32-bit on 64-bit Windows, you need to
choose menu Options - Show 32-bit shell extensions.
3. Sort the shell extensions by type
4. Disable all context menu shell extensions one by one (you can hide/keep those belonging to Windows, they are usually OK).
5. Continue until Total Commander stops hanging for several seconds
6. Now you can re-enable the extensions which don't cause any problems

Re: Several seconds to delete file
Dear Ghisler,
Thank you for your response.
I have disabled all "Context Menu" items that do not have Product Name = "Microsoft Windows Operating System".
But it still takes seconds to delete a small file.
Furthermore, since it in some way is connected with OneDrive, I have searched for "OneDrive" and disabled all extensions found.
Does not help!
Further info:
1) When I hit Alt/Enter to see file properties, I get the same delay if (and only if) the file is placed in a OneDrive folder.
2) When I hit F6 to move the file out of or into a OneDrive folder, there is no delay!
Do you have other suggestions that can help me?
Best regards,
Helge

Are there any differences in said behavior in Total Commander for the files within the OneDrive scope marked as "Always keep on this device" and for the ones marked as "Free up space"?
"Blue cloud icon" (online-only files), "Green tick icons" (locally available online-only files), "Solid green circle with the white check mark" (files always available on your device):

Re: Several seconds to delete file
I have checked this myself too - files which aren't available locally (cloud icon overlay) are not being downloaded when I rename them. If you use the multi-rename tool and use a placeholder which accesses the file content, e.g. the version number of EXE/DLL files, the file will be downloaded, which will cause a delay.

Re: Several seconds to delete file
I have tested the three OneDrive situations:
1) Always available on this device
2) Available on this device
3) Available when online
When I am online and try to delete the files individually, there is in all three situations a pause before I am asked whether I really want to delete the file.
When I am offline there is a pause for the first two situations. For the third I get an error message.
I hope this can help in pinpointing the 'problem'.

Another idea is to check the Microsoft Defender "Virus & threat protection settings."
"Real-time protection" [on|off] ("Cloud-delivered protection" [on|off], "Automatic sample submission" [on|off])
You can also try to add the entire Total Commander folder (and a folder where the files in question reside) as Exclusions in the Microsoft Defender settings (to exclude those folders' contents from Microsoft Defender Antivirus scans).
And yet another suggestion:
What if to check the "☑ Use Explorer delete method (faster, cannot handle comments)" check box in the Total Commander settings?

Re: Several seconds to delete file
Dear beb
I have tried all your suggestions, but nothing helped before I came to your last point:
What if to check the "Use Explorer delete method (faster, cannot handle comments)".
It was already checked, but UNCHEKING it helped!
So now I can delete files in OneDrive folders using TotCmd as fast as if I used Explorer.
Does anybody have an explanation why this helps????
Best regards & Thanks for the help,
Helge
