TC 6.5 commentary

Post by *petergus »

Two thing I have noticed with TC 6.5:

When I create a Custom Column with the size value,
it doesn't show <DIR> or <LNK> when is't not a file.

I can't print filelist in Custom Column. I really miss this one.

Is this by design?

This is on Christian's to-do list.

Indeed there are still some unsolved problems with printing custom columns: Since column fields may be very long, it's difficult to decide what width should be used when priting...

OK, I see. A startingpoint could be the column width I have set in Custom
Column and perhaps the align value.

How about the other thing? When I select tc.Size as a custom column field, I got 0 for dirs and links instead of DIR and LNK.

And another thing I have noticed, how is tc.attributestr sorted ??
It's no logic at all compare how Windows do it.

Wordwrapping is a cool thing. And <1 field><delimeter><2 field><new line><3 field>etc. form can be convenient if choice between <delimeter> and <new line> is user defined.

I'm considering this. Currently numeric fields like the size field cannot show nno-numeric text, but maybe I can find a workaround.

When I am viewing (or I should say trying to view thumbnails) a Windows Explorer screen keeps popping up every few seconds. How can I prevent this? It is most annoying.

Can you describe in more detail what happens? And what method are you using to extract thumbnails?

The window that pops up is more like a "My Computer" C-Drive window than Windows Explorer. I have tried checking just about all of the options for extracting thumbnails. Presently "Get from lister ... " *.* and "Get from Irfan-/Xnview..." *.*. I am also using the jpegthumbnail plugin without which I can not see any thumbnails regardless of the extract settings. When I press Ctrl-Shft-F1 in a directory that contains jpg and bmp graphic files the C-Drive window pops up when I move the cursor between imaged and blank thumbnails. It doesn't seem to matter which extraction method or combination of methods I have checked. My graphics viewer is Xnview.

Thanks for the response.

If you try the methods one by one, does each of them by itself exhibit this behavior?

TIA

I don't have the problem if I use only the first method "Get from lister ...". The problem is associated with the "Get from Irfanview/XnView.." setting. There seems to be no way to see any graphics format other than *.jpg.

Edit:
I went into wincmd.ini, [Lister] and filled in the path to my xnview.exe file under IViewPath= , which was blank, then selected both "Get from lister..." and "Get from Irfanview/Xnview..." methods. Thumbnails now works fine. For some reason TC couldn't find my xnview.exe file and was putting up that offensive window in an effort to do so.

Thanks for the help.

Glad you have solved the problem.
The path to XnView in the ini file is usually set through Lister - Options - Configure - Path. (You can uncheck the "Use..." checkbox above the path after setting the path.)

Roman

I am unable to find the "Lister-Options-Configure-Path" sequence that you mention. Am I missing something in the Configuration menu or what?

Thanks again for your help.
