Does TC 6.50 try to access the internet after install?

Post by *white »

My Firewall blocked TC in trying to access the internet after I installed TC 6.50. I do not understand why TC was trying to access the internet.

Does TC 6.50 try to access the internet after install?

No, TC does not contact the Internet by itself. Some users have reported that Norton Antivirus contacted its LiveUpdate server when right clicking on a file in Total Commander, so you may be seing this. What server did it try to contact?

Have you checked your system for viruses/spyware? Sometimes, when i execute an application from within TC that tries to access the internet, NIS reports to me that TC is trying to acces the internet, not the application i'm executing (this depends on the settings of the firewall). Maybe this is the case.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

Which firewall are you using? Kerio for example warns on every new version of any program, just to make it sure it is allowed to start on the system.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

result in a connection attempt.
Although I thought I only used thumbnails view to view .jpg files, I am convinced this is what happened.
I did some testing with .url files and I got similar entries in my log file with each time a different port number.

My question "Does TC 6.50 try to access the internet after install?" is answered enough. Thank you all!
