[REQ] List all available configuration entries in wincmd.ini

Post by *icfu »

I would like to see TC list all(!) available configuration entries in wincmd.ini and not hide the default ones.

This will make editing the file a lot of easier because you can be sure that Ctrl-F in notepad will always jump to the correct entry and you won't find yourself confronted with a "not found" which results in the need to manually scroll to the desired location and create the entry manually.

Furthermore, imho a really big advantage, it would be possible to compare the wincmd.ini after an update with an old backup to see what entries have been added.

Less work, more fun.

This might help you a bit. But I'm sure you already know it and it might not be TC 6.5 ready...

Yep, I know it. :)

The problem with apps like that is that they have to be manually updated by either the author or the user himself to reflect recent TC updates and to cover all changes. The app relies on config entries informations being available to the public in the help file and maybe other settings being discovered afterwards by the users that ghisler just has forgotten to add in the help file.

One recent example is "pluginbasedir", one important setting mentioned nowhere.

If all those entries were listed in the wincmd.ini by default it would be a lot of easier to also find out which entries are missing in the help file so they could be added later.

A setting not known to all users is quite useless.

I like this idea too.

BTW, talk about hiding default settings, this one in Help:

PreloadThumbnails=1
1: Loads thumbnail images already when opening a dir, not only when scrolling to that line.
2: Same as 1, but also in branch view
3: Preload just the next two lines below the visible thumbnails

At first I thought value 1 is the default (then it's unnecessary to explicitly add to wincmd.ini, right?) but it's not. The behavior is different with or without it. I'm a little confused.

The default value is 0, preloading off, and the value is mentioned in TC help file. ;)

All I have changed was the avatar. No idea which location I had entered there, too long ago...

If you remember it, please tell me. ;)

I don't support this feature, I don't see the big advantage of such wincmd.ini which give the reasons for the efforts by Christian himself. I suppose this wincmd.ini have to be manually updated by Christian otherwise there were no forgotten entries in help. ;)

Well, finally found it in history.txt, only.
This's supposed to be mentioned in [wincmd.ini] of Help IMO.
