As there was never a reply from ghisler I'll try it again...
Windows Explorer has a nice feature to auto align columns when pressing Ctrl-Num+ so there is no need anymore to manually set column widths or fumbling with separators.
Now that we have so many available columns the need for better handling has even increased. It's not acceptable to manually adjust column widths when there are 50 columns displayed at the same time with contents permanently changing needing more space or less.
Of course TC should make it even better than Explorer:
Optionally
-align regarding the width of the column content
-align regarding the column header labelling
-align regarding the neighbor columns with optional overlapping to save even more space

I will consider it. The problem is that TC would have to
- retrieve all fields at once
- measure the string widths of all fields
resulting in very slow operation especially when using many custom columns...
