[OT] Virtual CD drives

Post by *JP »

I'm using DAEMON Tools, but it has a limitation: it can mount only 4 image files. The plugin Virtual Disks has apparently the same limitation. Is there a Windows limitation (I'm using XP Pro)? Is the a freeware that can mount more than 4 CD images?

TIA

Why the heck do you need more than 4 images mounted at the same time?

It is possible to increase limitation in Virtual Disk. Edit the file filedisk.reg and write the number you need into "NumberOfDevices" parameter, then import the new file into the registry (or you can manually edit this value in registry at once). Maybe, it is needed to reboot the computer after that.

There are a lot of reasons. Just one for you: I need to run a database in 5 CDs and if they are not mounted as images, I would need to change them all the time.

When are you going to update Virtual Disks? I need to remount the images every time I restart Windows...
Any idea?

In thta case I would try to change the 5 CD-Images into 1 DVD-Image.

The five CDs are numbered and cannot be mixed. The program that reads them needs separate CDs/Images...

Unfortunately, I'm too busy with my job :( So I cannot give any promise of when the "Mount on reboot" feature will be released...

What about a fifth drive from e.g. Nero or Clone CD or any other CD-writer program you use. Guess most of them contain a virtual drive (both mentioned do). And if you really need more drives than you should probably buy Virtual CD wich supports up to 23 virtual drives.
