Small CD-Writer for TC - Russian members please help

Post by *Lesmo16 »

A thread about this topic also exists in the German section. Hacker kindly allowed this crossposting - thanks again.

Short prolog:
What I'm missing most with TC is a fast and small data-burner including ISO-handling. After long web-searches I found an (almost) perfect solution called Small CD-Writer. The developers homepage is http://www.avtlab.ru/scdwriter.htm and the current version is 1.33.
I've tested the program with russian codepage and must say it's absolutely GREAT - simply the best I've seen so far! And you lucky guys can use it without localization problems. :)

Now my request to all native Russians and Russian speaking members with a warm heart for the rest of the world:

Would you PLEASE contact the developers? There is a message board on the homepage. The intention should be, convincing the developers of publishing an additional actual English version, or at least the upcoming versions in English. Perhaps you can tell them the advantage of a large user-community as the best way to minimize errors and flaws in software. Write about TC as a good example for that.

Many members thank you in advance ;)

Yes, it's absolutely free. But it seems that they abandoned this project

FYI:
A new freeware(!) burning plugin was just released. ISO burning is on the todo list and it already looks rather promising.

But, don't hesitate to ask the author of the Small CD Writer, too. It's always good to have more than one alternative of course. :)

@Yorker:
Thanks for your reply :D
Yes, it's absolutely free.
That's really fine, but I also would have paid for it.
But it seems that they abandoned this project
How do you come to this conclusion?

I don't know. I just figured :)
They haven't been updating the site for so long. Honestly speaking this software was discussed in Russian forums a long time ago. Also I saw an article saying that it was the best free CD-burner. Unfortunately it doesn't use different language locales...
But anyway - let's check the new free burner plugin ;)

Taken verbatim and translated by WordLingo (it's half literal, but understandable):
Almost all represented software has only Russian interface and can
freely they will be extended with the observance of two conditions:
It is forbidden to change the composition of distributiva and to
introduce any changes in the files of original delivery (including the
transfer of the interface of programs into other languages)
;
No one can take pay for the propagation of this programmogo guarantee
without the written permission of the author.
So, it's confirmed freeware and the packed executable is dated Sep/17/2004, so there's still hope for it to be an active project.
BUT, as long as a possible translation, well, the site explicitly forbids a translation by means of editing resources or the like, for instance, so the only available possibility is the translation job be made by its authors. :(

:) Hello !
the site explicitly forbids a translation by means of editing resources or the like, for instance, so the only available possibility is the translation job be made by its authors. :(
- It sounds bad… :| I think that such a way to write a program is specially stupid. Unfortunately, some authors don't care of foreign users… To edit the resources is often the only means to translate an interface, or change some faulty tool-bar bitmap or inappropriate font…
- And I wouln't wish to see a (French) translation by these authors, I'ld fear a heart crisis!

Yes, it's bad news. I hope somebody can touch their hearts to allow a translation, at least into English.

Thank's for all the replies. :)
I only can say: Stay tuned! Small CD-Writer is worth every try and trouble.
Post on the message board http://www.avtlab.ru/cgi-bin/avtgb.pl?page=1 and write them, that a whole community of fine people needs the english version.
I did so! :D
No one can take pay for the propagation of this programmogo guarantee without the written permission of the author.
I would do so, if would know where/whom to mail to. :?

BTW: Don't think of reverse translating. It's prohibited by the author - and I know it's not possible 8)

Language-files ?

:) Hello !
- Yep ! Except via the e-mail form, I don't see how to request an English version : the whole site is in Russian !
- And why an English version only? Just text-files *. LNG / *.MNU like in TC would be much better ...

Well, they actually provide an email on their page: avt@avtlab.ru
Also, there's a report form (hopefuly for support): http://www.avtlab.ru/report.htm

The question is whether they can understand written english... :) I believe they do.

@Villampiro, Clo and Yorker: Thanks for your interest and informations :D

I wrote the following mail to the authors/developers.
I hope all members agree with the context.
Hi all there at AV(T)Lab!

At first, I really hope you can read and understand this mail - but I think so ;)
Second, I posted the text below partial on your message board.

Small CD-Writer seems to be the burning application that I'm / we're long time looking for!
Only one EXE, INI-file instead of registry entry, full ISO-support and an almost sexy GUI.
Many members of the TotalCommander (very good file-manager) community, like me, would like to use Small CD-Writer - *but* we need it in English or even better with an external language file.

If you are interested too in localizing Small CD-Writer, we can offer several languages! There are members from all around the world. Many Russian users too, which could do the basic translation into English. If you would send a text file with all program strings to me, we will send back the translations to you.
This could be a great effort for your wonderful burning application! So please contact me :)

Thanks in advance of your answers, and best regards,
Lesmo16
