Some suggestions to improve TC

Post by *jesped »

1. Autoplay options (open new tab with inserted disc)

2. FollowFocus for both panes in singleclick mode

3. For folders in thumbs view: automatically get the first icon of the first .exe as an overlay folder icon.

4. better list refresh (doesn't work ok when you make things like drag files to a recycle bin in a toolbar on the taskbar, etc )

5. Undo/Redo support, at least like explorer does. It is useful when you delete or move a file by mistake.

Sorry for being so direct to the bone, I just hadn't any sleep in the las 20 hours.

Hacker's observation:
Threads with multiple suggestions tend to end in chaos.

Besides that, all 5 points have a common modus : to please users that want to click sloppy on
things, while watching tv, lettting TC do all kinds of automatics.
And Undo/Redo ! Come on, I'm very glad, that TC still doesn't use that horrid registry.

Exactly!!! That's what computers are for, to free us from the mundane and time-consuming.
And Undo/Redo ! Come on
You've never make a mistake? Wow! Call Guinness now!

Here's an equation:

Type A + Keyboard + Millions of Files = Early Burnout + Repetitive Motion Syndrome
Licensed, Mouse-Centric, moving (slowly) toward Touch-centric

That's it, to do things manually I can run any command shell or use the plain windows explorer, and that's not the point using TC.

Exactly, sometimes I delete files accidentally, and it is a pain in the ass to open the Recycle bin (it takes a lot of time open it in large disks). Explorer handles this kind of very simple undo/redo for copied/moved/deleted files pretty well. I am not asking about a "keep track of all my actions and undo everything" feature, just something that simple.

Don't get too excited here. Of course that's what computers are for, but that was not my point. I was just seeing the word 'auto' a bit much, My first rule with an automatic thing is the condition, that I should be able to switch it on and off. That's why I disable 'autoplay' in the registry, because Cd-roms have the tendency to spontaneously start to install things on your set without asking.
Of course I make mistakes too. But even TC can't prevent you from doing so once in a while. Sh*t happens.. And sometimes things still can be recovered, with a tool like FileScavenger, sometimes it's just lost in time and space.
